i got a 2000 fiat punto 1.2 16v sporting speedgear i have some problems with the gearbox everything works fine till the warning light for the gearbox comes on and seems like the gearbox doesnt have a clue what to do the revs are up down struggles going up hills and sometimes stays in low i gear i would put screen capture on but wont let me it says p0725 engine speed signal "no signal" "Fatal" "Light On" that was using multiecuscan with the cvt box selected

its saying the Crank Sensor is dying
No signal - means it not giving an output and as a result the rev's will just "die"

When you clear the error code - does it take the Orange engine light out - or the Red gearbox light (Car with bonnet open in red) go off?

just changed the oild filter and oil out of cvt box the engine runs fine never misses a beat the rpm gauge works good its the light what looks like the bonnet up the cvt warning light

In that case, I'd be cleaning the connector in the rear light cluster where the reversing light is.

Does your car beep (like it does when you reverse) sometimes, when you brake?

ye beeps everything works soon as light comes on sometimes it goes max 20 mph in low ratio and the manual mode stops working untill you turn car of and start it back everythin kinda works until the light comes back on then gearbox plays up

il explain things a little bit different this time you lot are probably thinking im some diy mechanic that doesnt no anything so here goes..

the fault code that was produced with a "gearbox warning light" is p0725 Engine speed signal. so on the efi ecu the engine rpm works the car runs fine no missing. So on the fugi sg-cvt gearbox ecu on live data for the engine the rpm gauge is erratic goes from 100 rpm jumping all the way up to 1250 what am i looking at here a bad earth bad connector bad wire? if anyone wants me to explain anything abit more i will sorry for sounding abit moody just no help and wrong help

You don't come across as moody -- just a little bit peeved with your car: which I would be, too...! You're also being methodical -- which many people aren't....

The reason I asked about beeping when braking (or otherwise) -- and not when you're actually in reverse -- is the "bad earth" you mention could be the one in the rear light cluster. I know it sounds freaky/weird/bizarre/unlikely -- but cleaning it up (and it's often the end terminal inside the cluster plug -- which goes to earth), and removing any tarnish, etc.; and then protecting it with something like Vaseline -- often sorts out all sorts of apparent Speedgear problems.

When you take the (reversing) light cluster off, I think you'll be surprised at how much crud collects back there....

Try this -- until you can see your reflection in the pins of the connector...! -- clear the code; go for a drive, and then report back. (y)

Meanwhile, if anyone knows how the "engine speed signal" relates to the CVT box, please enlighten us...! :worship:

PS: Another thought -- when you changed to gearbox oil and filter, you didn't nudge any connectors on the gearbox, did you? Might be worth checking whatever (and this is where my expertise falls off a cliff...) connections go to the gearbox....

that prob seems like the problem drove the car to manchester today about 20 miles the gearbox has lost all electronic controll all together it was setting off in the highest ratio and wen it finaly started moving was going 60 mph at 1000 rpm the connector going into the gearbox at side of the oil filter il lood if i wiggle the connecter it will go into low ratio then after 1 mile it will go streight into high ratio and wont set off how can i take the bottom connector off it wiggles but wont come out

wen the gearbox is smoking and red hot the temps you get off multiecuscan is -25 and the secondry preasure is 0.02 mbar if i wiggle the connector goes upto 280 mbar and -85 on temp 10 seconds later says 0.09 mbar and -1 so it must be the bottom connector

well i found the problem i pulled the plug out of side of the box all the wires were cut on the pulley and on the belt so lovely job taking the sump off again to repair the wires hope this fixes it

Hence the issue then :)

Pictures would help me understand - not having touched an automatic :)

But if there rubbing somewhere - make them longer/shorter so that ti cant do the same again

Make sure you do a nice tight solder with protection (heat shrink a few layers) As this will ensure it'll last a little bit longer :)

thanks for that link dave
realy halped to understand whats inside wen i worked at honda
i stripped a few of the jazz cvts down

look quite similar but atm my gearbox has Sh*t itself i did all the wires
but i think it was to late i did 2 much damage draggin its arse home wen it was stuck in highest ratio i did the wires built everything back up put oil back in put it in drive with wheels in air it went through gears fine rev stayed at 2000 rpm and speed increased 15 mph with every gear selected backed off went down gears put the wheels on ground put it in drive no clutch reved it then at about 4000 rpm it engaged clutch and spun on belt put in in reverse foot to floor didnt go over 1500 rpm and didnt move anywere getting a new box tomorow wen this box is out i will strip it down and post pictures for everybody to see thanks for all the help guys you have all been stars
