Hi folks, its been covered here, but probably not my problem with handbrakes.

My handbrake wasnt holding well, soon mot, and i decided do some work.

So , i decided change handbrake lines and shoes and cylinders.

After all work, my handbrake still sh*te, it is fastened under handbrake lever till max, still no good (even 2- 3 clicks).

I am suspecting i have problem with some springs.

Could somebody tell me, how many springs must be there ?

I know, there is spring on bottom, and in upper side there is two springs. I am not sure is there suppose to be any spring on adjusting arm ?

ill take off everything will stick a picture.

forgot mention ... punto mk1 , 55s , '96.

So, any one have idea why it doesnt do self adjustment ? is there spring missing ?
according hyenes manual, there is different system ... ;/

your springs look inherently right
look at the picture i copied and you will see to have committed the error of not letting off the handbrake prior to adjustment as that lever should be behind the drum on its stop when handbrake off
when you have done this you should be able to ratchet the shoes up by carefully pushing the footbrake and hearing it click up

this assumes ratchets have good teeth so they dont click back off

how you are adjusting it ? just on lever between seats ? , or i have to do some tricks with shoes also ?
or i have to first fit everything , and then adjust that bolt under handbrake lever?
i was doing this -( put everything together, and press foot brake) was expecting clicks ... self adjusting ... never happened. foot brakes work fine .. manage tighten wheel bolts.... but handbrake ...wont hold.

not sure now , on that picture handbrake is up or not.

i found out, that clicking sound goes off, when drum is off and I pres foot brake slightly, to put drum back, i have to push that adjuster , to squeeze shoes back, otherwise i cant put drum back. when drum back, there is no clicking sound, and it wont adjust.
Could be shoes too thick ?

Hi folks, sorted.

When i was changing shoes, old ones was just half way down. anyway stick new ones.
So why handbrake didn't work properly after i installed, and it was didn't self adjusting.

My mistake was : after installing shoes, i was adjusting handbrake, and after that i was bleeding system . ... which was totally wrong.

Thanks to "s and b" , pointing me, that handbrake arm was in wrong position.. and i was thinking a lot, why it wont adjusting, and understood, that it wont, because it was very tight ther.
Today i undid bolt under handbrake lever bolt,. and pressed footbrake, and clicking sound went. than i screw that bolt back, and handbrake went absolutely perfect.

Shall be sticky , handbrake adjusting procedure. :

after changing drum shoes, or adjusting handbrake, need unbolt nearly completely bolt under handbrake lever, than press foot brake , shall hear clicking sound (from back wheels) , and then tight up bolt under handbrake lever, and test.

That's it.
