after a lot of searching and testing positive and earth wires and plugs. i decided to chance it and go buy new clocks for £25 all in with 110k on the clock..
I just been out and fitted them and im chuffed to see all dials working again
I now have over a quarter of a tank and it idles just under 1k once it settles down
so my problem was my clocks afterall, had just stopped working,weird :s

Taxed,Tested,Insured and back on the road
clocks all sorted and back to normal
