Car has noticeably slowed to pull away from lights?

revs slow to pick up and sometimes stutters on acceleration?

when the engine does pick up there is usually a cloud of black smoke squirting out the exhaust?

No warning lights on dash?

have been doing low mileage trips to work and back (4 miles each way) for about 2 years now.

had a full service last week but no change

Best ideas?

cheers in advance

Take it for a blast down the motor way, probably the particle filter blocked

I understand you have had a service but not everyone will do a good job. So do these as a final test.

- Clean MAF Sensor
- Clean Lambda Sensor
- Clean EGR Valve
- Clean Coil Pack / Dizzy Cap Contacts
- Clean Park Plugs
- Check Air Filter Is Clean
- Check Oil Is Brown and not Black (if black then you need a oil & filter change, go back and complain to have it done)
- Check For Any Leaks In The Air Intake, and tighten fastening screws linked to intake
- Get Some Redex (or your chosen brand) And Put Into Petrol Tank, better when tank is low, it's more stronger.
- Let Redex mix and settle for about 30mins
- Go Burn Some Rubber On Motorway

If the car feels better but still dragging a bit

- Check Calipers have not Seized, If Seized Then Clean and Re-Grease Sliders
- Open Break Flued Cap, Then Pump Breaks Till They Go Stiff, Put Cap Back On
- Last thing would be to reset the ECU. Disconnect the Battery and discharge any left over electrics by pressing down the break pedal. Release Break and leave for 30Mins. Connect Battery and Start Engine (DO NOT REV ENGINE), Leave The Engine To Idle for about 6+mins. Make sure AirCon is Off.
- Go for a Drive like normal and let the ECU customise itself to your driving style.

thanks for your reply, but does it refer to the 150 sport petrol engine?

Refers to any car. They all have the basics and run the same way, including the sensors. All you have to do is find the sensors and understand how the engine, and others parts, work on your car.

There are different ways to do things but the main thing is to do what you feel most comfortable, or just head to a specialist garage. Not a Fiat dealer one, but one that deals specifically with Italian cars.

1,unplug air flow meter take for spin see if any diff if no joy
2,blank egr off
itl be either of them

I did today, remove and clean the MAF. I could only spray it with a solvent degreaser as the sensor was not the screwed in type. The sensor appeared to be glued into it's housing and I had to remove the whole thing.

No change though so will have the EGR off at the weekend, clean it and hope for the best?
