hii , i want to buy grand punto 1.4 77hp , but i am soooo afraid from the engine as i think it will be a weak one?! becuase i travel alot in a long distance and with my family? so is it strong enough? is it powerfull? specially i will get the automatic one? so i am very afraid from that?!
thanksss

Go test drive one and see what you think.
I'm just changing from a 1.2 to a 1.4 and have to say there isn't much difference, though the 1.4 is a bit more refined.

I would have thought if you do many miles it would be sensible to consider a diesel.

afraid? of a 1.4? i have a 1.2 and it does me just fine, i am certainly not "afraid of it "

If you want my advice id not get one as your clearly talking yourself out of it before you start.

Go and get your self a petrol guzzler and pay heaps out on petrol every week then send us a pic of your car, that way when we are sat next to each other in a traffic jam i can wave at you and show you what you could have been driving for a fraction of the cost :D

Alright son,

Personally I had a previous 1.2 8V GP and all I can say was that it was kind of slow, it was nippy for a 1.2 and would hit the 100 mph mark ever so slightly. But with GP (personally) they are pretty heavy cars, I mean they arent the smallest of cars in its class for a start.
I would say not being biased in any way just simply point of opinion, I have a 1.4 StarJet 16V and that kicks out 95 BHP, its more demanding on the wallet but its not much much more than the 77 BHP engine. Mine is currently on 105 BHP with some mods done to the engine so its kind of more grunty, I personally feel also they aren't the best on petrol neither!!
But if you want a car that can more or less perform then go for the 1.4 T-Jet which is turbo 1.4 that kicks out 120 BHP or if you want the whole punch then the 1.9 Multi-Jet thats 130 BHP. But if your money stretches to a 1.4, then personally go that lil further and get the StarJet or better still the T-Jet. They will perform more better on the motorway. Mine is happy to sit at 95 MPH with it not screaming too much. Hope this helps mate.

My advice. if you can afford it get a diesel much better (y)
And before i upset people the petrols are good.

I used to have the 1.4 8v 77bhp and it was fine, i drove it 600 miles to go on holiday last year with 4 people in it and a load of luggage. Wasnt underpowered at all, well i didnt think so.

thank u all for ur replies , i just can't afford more than the gp 77hp , and i like it , but its all about the engine , all your answers don't make me feel good at alllll :) , so is this means that the power or the engine is so badddd like that?! the salesperson told me that it's called engine fire!! and its soo fast and so powerfull because the toruqe?! i just want some one who have it
thanks again for your replies.

the 8v only has 10nm of torque less than the 16v- and its more useable because its lower down the rev range.

it is not underpowered for the car.

i've had mine for 6 months now, love the car, and certainly not under powered, certainly the other engines are better and faster, but what you want to know is if i buy this 14.8v am i going to feel like i'm trundeling along?

the answer is no, at no point have i yet felt it needed more power, only that more power could be more fun

hope it helps you make your decision but i wanted the 1.4 16v and only got the 8v because they had one at the right price and spec, i test drove it and it felt fine, since run the engine in and i'm a completly happy customer, never kicked myself once for getting it

but what you want to know is if i buy this 14.8v am i going to feel like i'm trundeling along?
wooah :p

i have the 1.2 8v and its perfectly fine, ive had 3 people in the car and gone on long journeys and it does the job. just test drive 1.4 8v, but im sure it will meet your needs :)

I have the 1.4l 8v engine in my GP – it's a good engine and it's fine for motorway cruising – even with 4 full seats and luggage.

It'd be nice if it had a 6th gear, but I'm not complaining. Don't know how well it goes with the automatic gearbox though (or is it semi-automatic?)
