Back in january this year i decided to try something different and go for a fiat punto! It was the mk2 model 1.2 sporting with just under 80k on the clock. At the time i was very happy, i had it from the garage at a reasonable price with 3 months engine and gearbox cover. Also it had 12 months m.o.t which it passed with flying colors.

Then the problems started about 2 days later, it started small, the window didnt open, fuel gauge having a mind of its own at times. Then the bigger stuff happened. Firstly the clutch went, which i replaced myself. Shortly after though the gearbox broke, now this was under warranty. So i had that changed through them, although they decided to replace it with a 5speed instead of a 6speed! And they still to this day refuse to change it again to a 6! Next the head gasket went, and that was replaced by the garage.

Now yesterday i was driving along, slowed down went to pull off and the engine completely cut out, there was no power at all! When the AA came out to me again for the 4th time, he said that the cam belt had broken. He also mentioned though that this may be down to when the head gasket was replaced, because they need to remove the cam belt??

Basically, im in a sticky situation here! im no expert on cars but from what ive been told a new cam belt can be a very expensive job! Does anyone know what sort of price i could be talking about?? also should i take it up with the garage about when they replaced the head gasket? Or do i just chop the whole in all together and get something else! Please your opinions would be more than helpful!!

Garage should have fitted a new cambelt (and water pump too) when they did the HG. Sounds like they did a shoddy job to me, or tensioned it incorrectly, good case to take it back to them IMO.
