Yup, used to speak on the phone with Morden VW a fair amount - can't remember the name of the person I used to deal with - tried racking my brain, but not been in that job since May 07...I used to deal with car hire at VW, so that might give you an idea....

I'd support anything to avoid the hell that is traffic lights... Why have a roundabout if you're going to slap traffic lights on it?

Finally, some people that know MK. I thought more people would have heard of it because of the roundabouts etc. Oh yes, and the concrete cows (which we now have two lots of).

I live the wrong end of the country to venture there on a regular basis, as does about half the UK population And I'm sorry but concrete cows canot compete with random concrete hippos

Milton keynes is ****ing excellent! The grid road system is brilliant. In milton keynes its foot down all the way, its a drivers paradise. These old farts who wanna start putting up traffic lights, no more grid roads etc need a slap. At the moment in MK you hardley ever find your self in a jam, you can get from one side of the city to the other in 5 minutes - the traffic follows thanks to the grid roads and now some muppets wanna change all that - wtf is wrong with some people aye? pl's even if you'll never vist MK sign the petition coz MK is the way all city's should be.

Pretty cool system, am I right in thinking a lot of US cities are arranged in this way?
I would imagine it probably beats jammed up one-way systems where you don't have a lot of choice, route wise.

I have heard that the MK Branch of kwik-fit is the busiest in the country because every other car in MK has a bald front N/S tyre due to all the roundabouts......is that nightclub still open at the Point??

I've only been to MK twice and I hate the stupid road system. Feels like im driving in New York except on a much smaller scale (which means it uber Fails!).

I've been in contact with MK now for around 27 years and I feel slightly attached to the round-a-bouts and grid system - agreed it can get you to the center with marginal queues! I don't know one shopping centre you can drive your car almost into the centre - run in and run out (with said item in hand just purchased) without incurring a charge on your parking ticket!

I can remember there used to be a Corsa meetings outside the stadium there when it was made... Don't know where they've got to now, but they've probably all grown up now and bought fiats

any heavily populated area in modern britain needs to be aware of 2 things, free space is not allowed and public transport is more important than private transport.

i dont agree with either principle, but thats life and that is why the MK grid road system will not be implemented in new estates. builders cant afford to waste the space and the bus system cant deal with a bigger grid.

I don't think that there is much we can do to stop them building without new grid roads, but we need to make sure the current grids are kept the same.

The argument that the bus system cannot deal with a bigger grid is b*ll*cks because:

a) the bus system is crap in MK and can't handle anything at the moment, so no point trying now

and

b) it should make the bus routes simpler as all the bus stops are on the grid roads, so really the buses don't need to enter each housing estate, they just need to run back and forth around the grid all day.

I've been to Mk many, many times & have never seen the concrete cows.
Thing I dislike about the road system in MK is the signage. I know MK reasonably well & can find my way around quite easily, however, I have, on occasion, been foiled by the misdirection of the road signs.

First time I had to take a colleague to MK general I followed the signs which took me on a 12 mile round tour of MK. Whilst waiting at the hospital I asked a member of staff for the nearest petrol station - Asda, 1 mile away.
Whilst there, I bought a road map of Bucks & discovered the road signs had taken me 12 miles out of my way
Another time, coming back from Olney, I followed a signpost & quickly realised the road didn't look familiar, I stopped & checked my map & noted I was being taken on another MK scenic tour.
Since then I have always checked the road map, although these days I know my way around fairly well.

Have to agree about the speed of traffic around the grid (except for the bit around Ikea, Tesco etc) & with the multiple lane approach/exit at roundabouts there's never a problem getting lumbered behind old codgers. (also find the new L/Buzzard - MK link road 'kin excellent & the A5 is a brill for pedal to metal action.

lol I agree, some of the signs are weird....

If you come out of the centre a particular way there is a sign that points to Stony Stratford (pointing left instead of right) and on the same sign tells you to turn right to Bletchley (when it's probably quicker to go in any other direction possible). Generally though, the road signs are pretty good.
