Hello boys and girls...

I've not been posting in this section lately as all has been well on the Ulysse front................... until now!

As you know I use my Ulysse as a taxi covering 800+miles a week. Been good as gold since the taxi plate was slapped on the back in November last year with no problems what so ever.

Jumped into my workhorse for yesterdays shift and all hell broke loose! Firstly the service indicator flashed up telling me that I'm due yet another service but thats part and parcel of my job so is to be expected. A few miles later I went to start it and "Oil Level Low" popped up. Oh well, again, nothing to worry about as its expected with the miles I do. A few miles later I applied the brakes to hear the rear nearside brakes scrape. Doh! Not going well so far! Popped in the shop to get a packet of cigs and on returning to the "workhorse" i noticed the 2 front tyres are a few mm off the markers. All of it is a bit of a bummer but its to be expected and I'm quite happy to spend out on it and get it into the garage to get it upto tip top condition again (which it always is, just all seemed to go wrong in the space of 50 miles). So..... with this little story out of the way and with me realising my nights takings was going on a garage bill all was well again!!

UNTIL........

"Engine Antipollution System Faulty" pops up onto the screen!!!!

I know there has been several posts about this system but don't recall one saying the system was faulty. It has also popped the engine management light on too. I've tried taking it for an hours motorway speed drive then parking it up for the night and that has not cured it (as recommended in other posts). My little workhorse is still battleing on even though this error message is constantly on the screen. The error message appears when the car is started and is not here sometimes and gone the other like other people have had. I express again that the car is driving fine with no power loss.

Here is a picture of the error message...
(See attachment)

Now, I'm hoping someone here can tell me the cure for this problem with a rough guess at a price too if possible. I'm distraught that my little workhorse has finally let me down (even though she is still driving fine and did a full shift tonight with no more problems other than the major one and the normal serviceable parts).

My car is a Fiat Ulysse Eleganza 2.0 JTD 2003 "53" registration with 86k mile and thought it was a non FAP fluid model, starting to guess that its not now!

Please help me and my little car!!

Hi,

I don't know if you read this post https://www.fiatforum.com/ulysse/32247-depollution-engine-warning-message.html Mine was giving exactly the same message as yours with the management light on but I had severe power loss which would go away but as the months went by the power loss would remain for longer periods until it was there in some form or other for most of the time. Yours does not sound as serious so it probably is not the same problem I had (Turbo replacement). The thread goes into some detail and the things that come up are the FAP fluid, FAP filter (I don't know whether your model has these as you have mentioned already) Loose fitting fuel cap, Faulty Lambda sensor. Unfortunately this is where the problem really lies. The Examiner system can be non specific on the fault and garages (if you can find one that knows what they are doing) will keep changing bits and pieces to see what happens. I had three sensors changed on mine (all in the turbo) plus an expert working on the system before they decided to change the turbo. The first charge will be the diagnostic check, in London they wanted £90.00+ I went back to the dealer I bought it from (Rockingham cars, Corby) and eventually had it all done under warranty but the diagnostic charge would have been just over £50.00 there. The fuel filler cap is around £20.00 I think. The other bits I don't know as I did not pay for them. You may be better off trying to find a local garage who may have experience of the examiner system, I would look for a Peugeot independent as they appear to be more common than Fiat ones.

Any other questions please ask... and good luck.

Lou

Lou, thanks for your detailed reply and for taking the time to write about it here for me. That was brilliant.

The fault is still there. I filled up and when I released the filler cap there was a rush of gases so I'm not sure its the cap at fault. I do recall the engine management light coming on my friends Astra and it was the Lambda sensor. Maybe that should be my first try?

Shouldnt the ECU show a fault code?

Too much modern technology on cars these days!

There is no power loss or any change to the drive of the car so maybe I should just carry on driving it?

Thanks again Lou. (y)

The problem with diagnosing this fault is lack of practice by many garages. You need to find a garage with a technician that has had experience on this system as in the right hands examiner can most of the time identify the fault quickly & accurately by using recorder/active diagnostic functions.

Regeneration is a topic that comes up alot but is often misunderstood and thought to be the root of error message you are getting but that isn't always the case.

Be aware there is a software update for vehicles that (as Lou said) suffer from a power loss.

Hi T14086,

You mention a software update for this problem. Do you have details on the update? as I would like to check whether it was applied to my vehicke once the turbo was replaced.

Thanks

Lou
