I am getting a warning message on my Nav+ screen when I start up - "Depollution system fault" and the "engine" warning light is permanently on. As it happens it's going into the dealer on Monday for the parking sensors repair (third visit...) so I will get them to look into it. Wonder if that will be covered by the third year warranty?

OK good, this old corker...

Mine comes up regularly, usually on long trips. Always resets itself next day, though. My car already had a new cat on at 8k miles, and garage reckons it may be a faulty lambda sensor; needs to be booked in, but at the moment they are sorting the Stilo ;)

Will dig up some old threads on this error message. Should be a warranty issue, surely.

Yes, by the time I got to the dealer it had disappeared again. He said there as nothing in the memory, and they had never heard of that fault, so I should just forget it. From other posts it sounds like it might come and go and I'll just have to get used to it!

I wouldn't forget about it, to be honest - the dealer is always talking rubbish.

If it stays on too long, car goes into recovery mode - had that on way down to Fishguard on the M5, not fun on a Friday night. I have also had a new cat at 8k miles, so something is up.

It came on again this week. Dealer has ordered a new "throttle position sensor" which they say is the cause of the fault.

Depollution? I think that has something to do with the section of exhaust infront of the cat (particle filter ) basically its for reducing smoke under acceleration and requires special fluid in it via a seperate tank under car. This is done at a later service interval, saw a service sheet on this somewhere but cant remember where, from memory it must have the right type of 2 available fluid in it but thats all I can remember

Dont know if this helps or not but doubt if throttle sensor will cure it? Still you never know!

Well the new throttle sensor was fitted yesterday, so we'll just have to see - the light hasn't come on so far...

Last time the car was in I also asked them to check the tracking as I thought the front tyre wear looked very uneven (wearing on the outside). They told me this is normal for cars with power steering and not to worry. When I collected it yesterday, the receptionist said the mechanic had noted an "advisory" that the fron tyres were bordering on the illegal and should be changed. The car's only done 1900 miles! Shouldn't they last a lot longer than that? I wonder if Fiat dealers are speacially trained to wind up their customers?

This seems to be a common problem on cars with 15" wheels and Fiat have now changed to 16" as standard. If the car is under warranty I'm sure I have read others getting new wheels and tyre because of it.

If it's the front tyres, it's hopefully just the tracking. I noticed wear on my front tyres and got the tracking done. I asked them to swap the front tyres to the rear to reduce the wear and now I have done 22K miles and still have 5 or 6K left I think.

I think it would be worth checking the backs to see if you have the wear there as this is a more serious problem.

Stu did you get yours fixed.

Worth noting that I have 16inch wheels and still had the problem with bad wear front and back at 22K or so.
We had a new rear axle fitted complete.

Read the manual chaps. The pollution error will come on when the vehicle is cleaning the F.A.P. filter. It is a complex system but when this filter becomes blocked then the vehicle needs to heat to burn off the particles that are in the anti-particulate-filter. When this happens the warning light comes on the dash. This might not always be the problem but be aware of it... :) Cant believe no ones every told you this.

Well thats a different ball game, it does not have a fap filter on it. That could be anything, without a computer to check its hard to say but could be lambda, sticking fuel regulator, Missfire(Even a slight one you cant feel) ect, Its just to hard to say. I was referring to 2.2 JTD, also 2.2 have a special fuel cap so make sure its fitted correctly after refuelling.

Strange thing is, it come up with "Anti Pollution Failure Warning" or something like that, but is disappears after a few hours.

The first time, the dealer reset it, the second time the AA man reset it and the third time I left it until it went out by itself after a few hours on not being used.

It's going to be two years old in October, so when they do the second service I will ask them to check it out.

How come I get it on my Petrol engined version !!
It's a Fiat! You've probably got the ECU out of a diesel version on yours, and it's complaining cos it can't find the fap filter at all.... :p

Well it looks like it wasn't the throttle sensor which was causing the problem. My wife has just phoned from the car to say the depollution warning is back - but much worse than that, there is a severe loss of power and she can only drive at about 5 mph - so at that speed it's going to be a while until I can have a look for myself.
