Yh so basically, My mk2 punto currently has front speakers and a basic aftermarket headunit. It has no rear speakers. Ive got an acoustic parcel shelf with 2 6x9's which i want to put in, a sub active enclosure and built in amp, a 4 channel amp, and am looking to get some components from the front. Im basically just looking for any advice anyone can give me on whether or not this is a good idea for a good sounding system, and if not ,what should i do differently. Also, im confused as to how many pre outs the headunit will need, as i have an amp and built in amp for the sub, so would I only need 3 pre outs ?
A lot of people have said theres no point having rear speakers, but i am always going to have people in the back so i think i might aswell put the 6x9's in, and i also got them given to me.
Im totally inexperienced with this, and having got loads to spend, but if theres any big flaws in my plans please let me know, appreciate any feedback
Mike

if you are going to be using 2 amps then you need two pre outs on your headunit

people are right in saying there is no point in having the rear speakers but seeing as you got them for free it would be kinda pointless to not use them but for a true sound quality system you would get rid of them

a passive sub and amp will out do your active sub but again your using what you go so it will do

so basically you want to get a nice set of components up front and amp them with the extra amp you have and sound deaden the doors and spare wheel bay

its not the best option but its the most do-able and cheapest for your budget using what you already have

Ah ok sounds good thanks for that, its a 4 channel amp ive got so I was going to amp up the 6x9's aswell, would that make sense ?

Personally i got a 12inch mutant with built in amp which when tuned right gives wicked B-line, also got 2 6x9 clarions which give the good vocals, in the front clarions also with tweeters and a ripspeed dvd head unit. just make sure the head unit you have is powerful enough for all the things your going to have i used to work in sound system garages and beleive it or not the cheaper option like the ripspeed can go up to louder volumes and better sound qaulity then some alpine units. Also have a look at the 10inch orions size is small but real good sound.

If you have a 4 channel amp then you will need 2 sets of Preouts for that and then 1 set for the active sub amp.

If you buy a decent set of components and use the 4 channel amp to run them then they will be plenty loud enough in the rear. (we can go through the best options for that later)

As for the comment above mine saying one Head unit can go louder than others, please don't listen to this. I don't want to bore you with how many ways that is wrong. Stick to Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood or at a push Sony and JVC for head units. I have one of the best units ever made for sale but it may be a bit pricey and over kill for what you need.

How much budget do you have for components and source unit. Maybe I can make some suggestions or have something second hand that would be useful. That also stands for the guy who I am going to point towards this thread.

Cheers for the redirect stu (y) I have a fairly flexible budget of about £350 for amp, components, HU and sub (and deadening to an extent)

Only real requirement is that the amp fits under one of the front seats in my GP :)

again thanks for the advice, i'd say i'd be able to spend another 100, I've now gone and bought a sony headunit with 3 pre outs, ive got my amp, 6x9's and sub. So now i need to find some good components, how much would i be looking to spend for a good set of components ? And also, what wiring would i need to buy, as i bought a 1200w amp wiring kit today, but would i need any more wiring, Cheers guys

You will need 2 more sets of RCA's i would imagine on the wiring front and also some speaker cable to run up to the front. I still say go active and run each speaker from the set of components on their own channel :yum:

As for which ones ill have a look to see what is there.
Mike i have asked Grainge16 to come in on this thread as your requirements are both very very similar so will be better for the both of you to read through what each other are asking and the answers you get.

Componets look on fleabay and such for DLS, JL, Phoenix Gold, Scanspeak, Hertz, Genesis etc etc.

Anything else just post it up and we can advise further.

Ok yh would this be the right cables to get ? I just want to make sure I dont get the wrong thing. Also, Im definitley going to look at getting the components on ebay so yh would appreciate any recomendations. Thanks

if you have a sub the it would probs be best to ditch 6x9's and focus more on the components as you will get your bass from the sub and vocals from the front components.

Just a thought and what I would do btw. Plus sounds is pulled way to the back of the car. I'm not gonna say I know all about soundstage far from it but it sounds better it my car since lost rear speakers and more directed front speakers

Definitely get the 6X9s out of the plan. Sell them and put the money towards a better set of front components.

If you really need rear fill just add some small coaxials in the rear.

Yh Ive now got everything installed other than the fronts, decided im just going to get coaxialls for the front now and send back the components as they seem like so much effort to install, and the 6x9's actually sound great, really happy with them
