It's me yet again..
On my petrol cap, when I unlock it and let it hang down on it's rubber cord, I've noticed that the rubber cord is splitting and very perished. It definitely needs a new one because it'll just snap in two. Does anyone know where I can buy a petrol cap with the rubber cord to attach it back to the car?

Cheers,
Rhys

I just kind of release the cap and the slowly lower it down while the keys hang and hope the rubber bit doesn't snap off.. What I'm gunna do now is take off the rubber bit from the car and put the cap in my pocket while I fill up.. Seems like a better solution than paying through the nose for a dealer part...

Cheers for the advice.

Best way mate,
you never know's Who is lurking around petrol stations, and insurer's have room to decline pay outs if car is taken with use of ign key.

best to be on guard, trust no one., ;)

Hi,

Doesn't that make your pocket smell of petrol?

There is a hook on the door or the petrol flap and a loop in the end of the petrol cap.... You can then hang your petrol cap on the door....

I have always taken the rubber chord off (probably have a few lying around somewhere) and just unlock the cap, take keys out, put them in my pocket then hang the cap on the door whilst I re fuel. That way no one can grab your keys and you don't have to put the cap in your pocket.

Hanging it on the hook also means you can't just shut the flap and walk off with the cap still in your pocket.

Ahh thank you :) that's a brilliant idea... Never really thought of that! I'll try it today, I've gotta top up anyway haha!

Cheers

if you use a heatgun carefully on the strap round the cap it goes slightly soft so you can slide it off and replace with a better scrapyard rubber strap

or even easier get a filler cap off an 05 punto as fiat resorted to non locking type to say a lira on this year

I always hold the pump so it's lined up with the bottom left of the filler aperture as you look at it (ie the nozzle is rotated 45 degrees to the left) and have never had a problem with the pump cutting out (as in the other thread) or the filler cap getting in the way. Took me a while to get it all right though as there's DEFINATELY a knack to filling these. Been working for me for 12 years lol
