Hi, I am very, very tempted at buying a personal Number plate, (P111MBM) PLUMBM which is my surname followed by the initial of my forename. Which i don't think i could have found a better match of plate. This plate is going for 226 GBP or 211 if bought on the net at this site

http://www.pl84u.co.uk/dvla2.asp

Which leads me to my question... Are there any other hidden payments that i have to pay to purchase this, ie carriage charge, swapping my orignalplate over etc. Any experienced input in this field would be greatly appreciated, as I am really looking to get this on my bravo, i just don't want to b bent over last minute with extra charges that went unforseen.

Thanks all

Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

Cheers Tom,is that 250 all inclusive of charges etc? As the other site i found was only 211!

But that site says "*All numbers attract VAT and a government assignment fee of £80."

Does the above mean i will have to fork out an extra 80GBP? Where i don't at the DVLA? sorry for appearing numb, I just have short arms and deep pockets if you know what i mean

Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

Im 99.9% sure that on the DVLA-som site, everything is paid, except the actual plates themselves. My old man bought a private plate for my mum a couple of years back from dvla-som, and all he had to do was get the plates made up, oh, and inform the insurance company.

Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

most of the sites have a "send me a quotation" button - if not, then send them an email and say "if i bought this plate how much would it cost, all in - to register it to a vehicle etc etc"

they will reply quickly as they've nearly got your business

nice plate by the way!

get some abarth plates from here:

Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

Woah, I didn't know i had to inform the insurance!! Is that going to bump up my already extortionate premium?? \

Thanks for your help though

Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

Cheers Dan, GTGrafix was where i was planning on getting ot from, i have been leaning towards the parental guidance one though, there are so many smart logos to choose.

Is this goin to increase my rediculously high premium then by getting a private plate??

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

Of course you have to tell them cos the reg number has changed! :)

It might cost you an admin fee to send out new paperwork.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

Note, the plod are getting very hot on non-standard plates. I think its up to £1000 fine now for something that can't be read by the digital cameras and that includes if its dirty/muddy.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

as long as you keep a set of "standard" plates in your boot don't worry about it - you just get a slapped wrist for plates, and in my experience you never get done for them anyway, although i know that tom's probably right they might be clamping down more, but don't worry about that

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

D'oh!! No worries, cheers all thanks for your help

Shouldn't have a prob with reading the reg plate as it looks how it should be read without altering.

Mike

P.S I'll post pics when it's all sorted and on

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

Certainly if you are like some of the members here with dodgey tints, 4" exhausts etc.. then a set of italic plates would just ensure the plod pulled you over.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

Tom, you are ever so sceptical

For..

1. No tints
2. Standard Bravo minus Alloys, thus no Rediculous pipe resembling Jenna Jameson's ring piece

Soon to be 3. The plate looks as shown below, hardly a case for crown court i think u'll agree

Thanks for your concern never the less

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

I think you will get away with that :)

Its when you can barely read it yourself then the plod get interested.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

the police are getting in an arse about non-readable plates as they have invested quite a bit in computers that can read the plate off the digital image. Where ever makes the plate has to put their address on it and if it's not legal the police can fine them a grand as well as you. It's more the font than the spacing they get worried about though. Or if you place a screw so that it changes a letter, ie two 1's to make a H

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

I see where ur coming from, though i think the plate is legible from my point of view as well as the legal requirement side. i dont plan on altering the font or adjusting the letters as it look s fine to me, thanks for all the info and ur input

Mate buy your plates straight from the dvla registration site. Vat and transfer fee is included in the price. Ignore all other registration site's.at the end of the day they all purchase their registration's from the dvla anyway. They then stick their profit on top. I've just purchased mine from them. there was £150 difference in price between them and the other site's.All you have to do then is go to your local govt registration office with a copy o your existing tax disc and ALL your paperwork.they then give you a form which you need to buy your new replacement plates with at your local halfords store

On the bottom of their home page, it says + vat and transfer fee. Vat is £36.83 and the fee is £80.

Re: Re: Personalised Plate help

Sorry that is correct.
I paid £144.68 Registration number
+ £25.32 Vat
+ £80.00 Transfer fee
= £250.00 Total
