Perplexed by cooling system

Hi everyone,
I am trying to fix the cooling system on my 1992 Fiat Ducato Campervan. (2.5 Turbo diesel). I have changed the radiator Fan switch. Out of the fan switch is a wire with a connector. The problem is that there are two receptors for this connector. If I connect the fan switch into one of the receptors, one of the fans kicks in when the engine warms up(but not the other). If I put the fan switch wire into the other receptor the other fan kicks in but not the first one.

I cannot find a connection for the second receptor. Any nuggets of wisdom would be warmly welcomed

did the original fan switch have only the one connector. quite often there are 3poles, one supply and two outs for different temperatures. one fan on when its quite warm, both fans on when it gets very warm.
