Toyo havent stopped making the t1r they have just stopped shipping it to the eu because they know knumb nuts are not going to look more than just at the eu label that only offers a restricted overview of a tyre’s performance

t1r is available in a range of sizes with speed ratings V and Y you just have to find old stock or shop outside the eu.

Clearly the EU labels are "restricted" to three heads – they don’t pretend (like the subjective commentators) to provide otherwise. But it’s a bit pointless searching for other attributes when it fails on the main EU/JATMA heads. A bit like buying a chocolate teapot – can’t hack a major task.

If the JATMA system is voluntary then they’ll be no restriction on what tyres punters can get hold of. The EU system being mandatory, then the poorer tyres are time-bombed to be choked-off at the tyre shops. It’ll be interesting to see what the US NHTSA will find.

What evidence do you have that the EU label system “puts poorer tyres on the road”?
What tyres have you found are poorer post-EU label than weren’t already poor pre-EU label?

Are you perhaps trying to attach blame to the EU label system for issues outside of it’s envelope?
That’s about as much use as claiming the MoT Test puts poorer cars on the road.

The EU label system covers three heads – fuel efficiency, safety & noise. Outside of that envelope – it doesn’t take away your right to buy a tyre with a bad element ... that’s up-to-you. A car may come with a current MoT – but you can’t attach blame to the testing authority for some fault you discover that’s outside of the MoT Test envelope.

the t1r is a brilliant tyre, but its replacement for the eu that gets a higher score on the EU label system is terrible especially in the wet, that's from real world reports from same drivers with the same cars, same roads, same weather trying both tyres.

Yeah, but in everyday life you drive tyres in laboratory conditions and bot real world conditions, oh wait �� Tbh caravadossi's posting verge on trolololololing with their devotion to test results.

The lab tests are a good indication of the tyres performance in certain conditions but reviews bear out that a tyre can have AA rating but subjective 'feel' of the tyre is worse in 'real world' conditions. I only wish I could find where I read that to settle the debate.

Ah – I see the phantom lab story persists.

We’ve more chance of seeing Lord Lucan being struck by lightning while riding Shergar than our hon resident subjective egocentric tyre expert coming up with the name of the authority that he keeps banging-on about measures wet grip & pass-by noise in a lab.

If the tests aren't done in a lab (we accept that they aren't) then a few benchmarks done under conditions which could vary wildly are more or less useless. Do you get it? Didn't think so :)

Was it on post #91 on the US test ?

When we tabulated the results and found the Continental in second place, we went back and checked our math. During three days of testing, our subjective impressions didn't lead us to believe that the Continental was a second-place tire, but when we added the scores, that's where it landed.

There are no `wild variations’ from harmonised testing authorities - the Japanese would be the first to protest on that score. After WW2 the Japanese learned from the work of Shewhart, Deming et al from the US on QC & SPC procedures & from then on effectively took-it-over to squeeze variation to tighter tolerances.

Run your theories past your boss. How is he likely to respond to the idea that his audiologists come-up with wild variations of objective data using your company’s harmonised test equipment – but hey, he can rely on finding a `competent real person’ who actually uses a hearing aid that can provide an unquestionable subjective review?
