haha cheers :)

Have you a modded panda?

Well you might have to look past the sombrero, but basically I have a modded panda. The Marbella now has a y10 turbo engine (that doesnt run properly yet  ) you can see it in the non fiat section if you want, or follow the link on my signiture. Should be good when its done, in fact thats this weekends job! Will be nice to move onto suspension for a change.

Y10 turbo panda - thats brilliant!

I love a bit of Y10 dabbling, are you using the anti roll bar or any other components?

I think there is a cult following of modded panda's sweeping the nation :)

Yup, used as much Y10 stuff as possible except electrics wise. That car had way too many electronics :p anti roll bar works quite well, even seems to make up for the fact my suspension is too soft. Cornering wise at least.

Anyway, suns out, so I'll be starting some work!

Yup electrics are poo  You have to drive most places with a multi meter in your pocket :)

On the engine front the 1242 8v and 16v engines are a fine upgrade for the panda. But if you want to get mental performance I always thought the best route was to look for another higher output standard engine rather than pouring money at a relatively low power unit. NOS on paper does stack up though. Will certainly be interested in hearing the results.

I am still on the look out for a T-jet conversion to get 120, 150 or 170 out of the box but not many engines on the market yet.

Cheers

Dave

I would have much preferred 'out of the box' power from another FIRE engine, but like you say there are not many available and if you can find one they are usually quite expensive.

Imagine a Fiat 20v turbo engine in a panda! Something like 320bph with relatively easy upgrades. Mental!

Would have been nice to upgrade to a 1368cc, but I think nitrous oxide is a good easy power upgrade.

wish you guys were in St Andrews yesterday, had one of the seicento chaps with a rather nicely modded sporting following me in and he was surprised I was pulling away from him on the hills in Grumbleweed. Don't know what they would have made of a 16 valver or a Y10 turbo mod:eek:

What about the 1.6 vtec from a honda crx? A lot of minis have this conversion and it gives 150bhp+ as standard.

Interestingly enough there are pictures on 'panda sports' profile of what looks like a vtec engine in a Panda.

That is a conversion which would interest me greatly, but I have little knowledge of Honda engines/mounts and would need to see one or get very clued up.

Maybe Panda sport can shed some light on the conversion, or if someone knows a build thread or place with some infor and piccies?

My 2p's worth if keeping it as designed purpose (sort of):

Expensive, sensibly mad power
T-Jet engine with Abarth turbo (and electronics if you know how). 170BHP and only 20Kg more than a standard FIRE. Would need some custom shafts and mounts for box.

Custom cheapish handling monster
Bike engine in the front. Would make a very light car and perhaps 130BHP. Would require loads of custom work, but would certainly fit. You would need to be Panda crazy to do this.

Hello!

Sorry for the absence lately, just got back from a week in Le Mans at the 24hr race so apoligies to anybody who has PM'd me lately - I'm working round to it (y)

Anyway the nos kit is fitted! Pictures up next week as I have a lot of dirty washing and tents to sort out, aswell as some wiring and plumbing to tidy up under the bonnet.

Right - lets get to business.

After going to Le Mans and witnessing allsorts of insane creations I have a new idea that I'm going to work out & research fully in the coming months.

As daft as it sounds I am seriously thinking about a Subaru Impreza engine & drivetrain retrofit into my Panda - using a shortened and modified floorpan transplant method. This would be a long term project that I intend to take to Le Mans in 2011.

All elements of the subaru would be used, so brakes, wheels, driveshafts, gearbox, brake servo, electronics and clocks etc etc.

The Panda body would need to have extensive modifications to accept full length subaru driveshafts and wheels, so a wide arch kit is obviously on the cards along with the entire shortened subaru floorpan so say the least.

This idea is in it's early stages and I am not, for one, going to go out tomorrow and buy a WRX to hack up. I have a lot of planning and measuring to do to see, at first, if it is even geometrically possible and what the closest other creations are.

My aim? Something unique. Something so unique it leaves people in state of shock for months. A 300bhp all-wheel-drive Panda with supercar beating acceleration and the innocent, brave Panda looks that we all love.

The project will be carried out in the aircraft hanger at work with the help of other guys who have made Ultima kit cars and done similar insanities such as V8 Rover Metro's - so there is no lack of brains and equipment at hand, just a question of time and how genuinly mentally insane owning a fast panda has made me!

More news as it happens but any opinions/insults/praise welcome!

Cheers,

Alex :)

Sounds like a good plan, and with the expertise you have behind you entirely possible. (y)

I know it's never gonna be a sleeper but would be good to keep it looking as close as possible like a normal Panda.

I went to Castle Combe on Saturday for the classic car action day, not quite Le Mans :p, but it did have me thinking of building a superfast Panda too, just the Punto 75 engine I'm waiting for would be a start :(.

Knowing you Alex we'll probably see this one at Gaydon in a few weeks ;).

I was actually considering a similar type of conversion myself only using a stolen-recovered mx5 we had in work. Unfortunately the owner wanted to keep the car so i shelved the idea. Would love to see this done.
