Does anyone on here know if the Panda Active Eco 1.1 and Active Eco 1.2 had the same gearbox ratios?
My gearbox data only goes as far as 2008.
Yes, I know they will physically fit, and that any difference will probably not be noticeable but its for a "picky" owner who will probably notice a really small difference...
I have a good Active Eco gearbox from a 1.1 with low mileage but the Active Eco 1.2 is pretty rare so don't really want to hunt one down if not necessary.
(If it was for me I would just fit it, but I don't want to do that and risk having to take it out again)

I posted them recently, see if I can find them again

Unfortunately there not the same

@koalar Thanks for that - I'll tell him to expect a delay while I track one down.
Unless HE decides it isn't a problem. Then when he comes back and says "its not the same" I can remind him that's exactly what I had told him.
(Or he can get his one fixed, but I suspect its not going to be economic to repair judging from the lack of oil and the groaning noises.)

1.1 at 70MPH looks to be worse option out it the three choices, extra revs will mean extra noise

The older 1.2 panda or 1.2 500 box is closer

I'm slightly surprised there's that much difference between them, although TBH I've never driven a 1.2 Eco that didn't have a knackered gearbox. (And then it was only onto a trailer.)

It's not that noticeable to drive

It's just noiser at speed

I put a 500 in my eco, and was happy with the result

Someone on here prefer the pre eco box as it's easier in 5th at town speed

Be careful, the OP's client's car is a 1.1 Eco, the last of the 1.1 engined Pandas and may not be the same as the earlier 1.1 in that table.

The attached scan is from the 2010 Panda catalogue.

If that information is correct (it's the official Fiat catalogue, but who knows?), then the 1.1 Active Eco has the same 3.438:1 final drive ratio as the 1.2.

It's possible Fiat may have made the change to get the 1.1 Active into the lower RFL band. IIRC some have said before that the 1.1 Eco is longer geared than earlier 1.1's.

So if you are sure the good one you have is from an Active Eco, and not the earlier 1.1, it might be OK to use it in a 1.2.

Hmmm.... that complicates things. Maybe.
I had heard that the run-out Active Ecos got the 1.2 engine but pretty much everything else was carried over from the 1.1 Active Eco, but I had some doubts.
But... like I said, if it was for me, there'd be no question - good condition 14+ year old car with busted gearbox + spare readily available cheap almost-correct gearbox = working car + oily paperweight. Job done.
Still, best plan is to give owner best info i have and let them choose. Then if they choose badly its not on me.
I don't yet know how much of a hurry they are in, so maybe finding a scrap 1.2 Active Eco is the way forwards.
Or repairing the busted one.
Or just fitting box i have and putting up with any differences.
(Or scrap it, in which case I'll buy it, fit the gearbox i have and drive it around myself).
I will ask them on Monday.

@koalar, @jrkitching Thanks for the info. Doubt it'll ever come up again, but I've bookmarked the data sheets in case it does.

I can't find any data on the latest elearn saying the 1.1 eco gearbox ratios were ever changed

The engine timing and map was changes are there are listed

If is search eper for the 1.1 active eco it only shows 55223878

Unfortunately if I the search eper for 55223878 it also comes back with the gearbox fitted to the 2003-2009 1.2 which further muddys the waters

As that does not fit any of the data above not 1.2 eco or standard 1.1

But there is a note about a date change

Which means I am more confused then before

Common sense would suggest that it would also get the 1.2 gearbox. It's the same Euro 5 69HP VVT engine that was used in the 500 at the time. Would a 1.2 500 'box not also work with the 1.2 Active 169?

The front track difference is presumably taken care of by using different driveshafts in the 500/Panda.

Even the information actually published by Fiat is inconsistent and confusing.

Yes that what I used in mine the 69 500 is the same as the 60 hp panda gearbox but not the eco pack

I used the 500 as it was easier to get

I 500 didn't get the eco ratios though and you can tell the difference if the customer is fussy but drives okay,

Well not when I did mine, might have only check to around 2012 as later gearboxes would have a price premium
