General  Panda 4x4

Our local dealer is finally getting one in (a black diesel, apparently) and has already ordered some for stock! I'm booked in for a test drive next Saturday...

I've just taken a look at the configurator and it is the most confusing and unfriendly piece of kit I've seen for a long time.
The old one was easy; can anyone explain how this mess is an improvement? I simply can't work the thing!

thanks - i managed to select TA this time, however it appears there are fewer colour options on the TA compared to the diesel??

And I agree with others - this is a truly dreadful piece of software!!

Lastly, the dealer reckons 6-8 week delivery if order placed today. Seems almost too quick!

In Fiats defence i'm not at all sure they have 'released' the 4x4 section of the website yet - so despite us stumbling across it - they may still have more work and testing to do on it yet.

My dealer also said 6-8 weeks but added the caveat that the order form would carry the standard 12 week disclaimer !

yep, the dealer chuckled when i mentioned that someone from this forum had come across it on line. He says this is typical with FIAT, before a cars launch, generally the public have more information than they do...

As noted above I'm sure this site cannot be intended for public use just yet. For example look at these special features?

"Ciao Fiat Sticker on dash"

"Complete Cellophane"

:)

Keep going FIAT - you are nearly there!

HA HA, wtf?? Same old story.

Panda Cross on Ebay

Or buy the brand new model with the uprated multijet for less with a bit of skilful haggling.

This is that one they bought for £9000 wasn't it?

This is not the same red Cross no - it's another. As usual, £14k on ebay and £12k on Autotrader...........

And you have to admire their balls - they now have a new £14k Panda 4x4 listed for £15k+. Their lowest mark-up ever.

This has

The 4x4 is now on the fiat home page.

And the trekking is too, select the 2wd panda and change version to find it.
Not working properly yet though, as nothing seems to happen when you try to select
the motor choice.

Must say I think the trekking appears good value at £1200 more than a ta lounge.
You get blue and me standard and esp, which costs £700 odd on lounge (though that will give you the TomTom unit)
So maybe a premium of £700? For the trekking/4x4 look and the trick differential.

That's pretty good I reckon.

When they fix the config to allow a Trekking to be specced I'll know how it compares price-wise with my ideal 4x4. Still can't decide which colour looks best! Is the orange a flat colour or metallic and has anyone seen the dark blue 'in the metal'?

Also there is no mention on the configurator, or from my dealer about a 4 year tyre & maintenance package touted in the some of the uk reviews.

Does anybody more 'in the know' on here have anything on that ?

Also how long do you think it will be before discounts appear ?

Finally found a 4x4 locally(ish) at Thames in Slough. I was told earlier that it wasn't available for a test drive, but we were let loose with it!

Very impressive as all the back roads were flooded, pot-holed, and generally muddy & slippery. Took it all in its stride and was distinctly unruffled by any of the dreadful roads. I'm sure the 4wd was active in some of the slippery corners & hills but you couldn't tell. What I could tell was that I'd have been crawling along in the Abarth trying not to drown it or slither off the road, while going at a fair lick in the Panda!! (y)

Trim is very nice and the "leather" panels on the seat sides remind me of those in my classic Panda Sisley - well done Fiat. :)

Mum was also suitably impressed - this is a good thing as it's her potentially changing car. Really want to see the green & orange in the metal though as these look good colour options (loving the orange interior trim on the configurator too, and that's not something I thought I'd ever say ;) ).

The realistic order timescale we were given was 10 weeks - mid to late Feb when translated into English. Just in time for the snow said the salesman, tongue in cheek - I think........

Sicilian orange is a pastel not metallic. Looks good in a video posted on this thread but really want to see it in the metal.

The Mediterranean blue is metallic. I've seen it on a non-4x4 and was disappointed in it. In cloudy conditions I thought it was dull & too dark (was hoping it would be more like the midnight blue on my old mk1 Punto), but it came to life nicely in the sunlight. Sadly we don't get that much sun so it came off my list - my Mum loves dark met blue but didn't like that one at all. Some will love it, but didn't quite do it for me.

The purple is impressive in the metal btw - the turquoise wasn't as it was too dark (some of the adverts make it look a brighter shade than it is in reality). Good job we don't all like the same colours though! (y)

White, it's free!

People are obsessed with free paint! All paint should be included free, but if you're spending £14k on a car then settling for a colour that you don't want just because it's free seems plain daft.

I'd have the Orange. I'd imagine it's the same orange as Funky Orange on the Fiat Qubo, so if you can find one of them then that'd be good to go on - whilst Qubo's are pretty rare, Funky Orange is one of the most common colours i've seen so there's a decent chance a dealer will have one.

Stoneacre in Rochdale had their Panda 4x4 (and a 500L) in white when i stopped to look last night, incase anyone's in Manchester or West Yorkshire & wants to look.

It's good to be reading other views on the colours Etc. I've been out in the Blackburn demonstrator twice today. Really impresses by the twin air engine. I'd driven a 500 twinair when it first came out and wasn't convinced it was worth the £1200 extra over the 1.2 in the 500 but in the 4x4 with the 6 speed box it seems just right. I do struggle as it sounds like it's struggling and I think I should be changing down but it actually has bags or torque if I put my foot down.

Colour wise I'm really stuck. I'm too conservative to go for the orange but love it on the photos. I like white cars but personally I don't think it make the 4x4 look its best. Black if always smart but i feel the contrasting Plastic mouldings would be lost on the black one. I'm ending up with the silver to play it safe i think but I think the orange interior looks nicer with the dark head rests but it's just so difficult to judge from photos and the white demonstrator.

May be ordering one tomorrow but just worried they'll be discounting them in a few months and maybe some different options will be available that are on the Italian one.

No matter what, it was good to see that everyone in the dealers was there to look at the 4x4 !!!
