Well I've finally got around to scanning in the 4x4 Service Manual that andyholli kindly posted to me before my holiday so here it is.

Yes, "phantom" LSD was fitted with marginal positiveve results.

ahh if that is so, would that mean that the 4x4 system could be used on solid surfaces? as it would still slip a little?

It might make a little ddifference for track car, when off-roading the extra friction caused by phantom lsd will be not enough to" lock" axle if one wheel will be free spinning. Only full lock will give desired effects.
