The propshaft bearing on my 2013 4x4 Panda needs to be replaced but my local garage seems to think that it’s only possible to buy the whole propshaft rather than just the bearing. Can anyone give me advice on this? Thank you. The whole propshaft is around £1800!!!

Hopefully some one can help, if you can dismantle it, I have found independent bearing specialists can often match.

Thanks. If anyone knows of such a place let me know. I’m in Northern Ireland which never helps! MOT coming on Sep 1st. 😖 The propshaft has to be ordered from Italy if I can’t sort something sooner.

Sorry, I may have given you the wrong advise, in your posting you said "propshaft bearing " which I took to mean a centre mounted support bearing in a rubber bush mounted to the chassis, not the CV joints at other end of the propshaft.

It’s the centre bearing that’s the problem. Looking at the threads it seems like a replacement propshaft unit is the best option to avoid problems further down the line. (I have zero diy mechanical skills!) Finding a s/h one in time is a challenge. I might just see if it will get through the MOT as is, which will give me more time to have a look around or go for a new one if needs must.

Do you have friendly skillful mechanic?

Hi, what are the symptoms that you are experiencing with the fail of the bearing?

Good news. I’ve located somewhere that can supply the bearing and my garage can fit it. They said it would be 3 or 4 hours work but that’s still a hell of a lot cheaper than a £1850 new one. The bearing is €75 from Ireland. Thanks for your help folks.

The official time to replace a prop shaft is just over an hour

To get to the centre bearing they just pop apart but require a lot more force than drive shafts

Heavy duty vice and large hammer makes it reasonably easy

Doable at home but a lot of effort

I just had mine replaced at a local drive shaft company, cost £150.00 Nottingham UK.

Could you please take a look at this image for me… 2014 4x4 and that’s the joint at the front of the prop shaft; is it a failed bearing? How easy to fix / cost?
Thanks for any help

You don't seem to be drawing much response here; possibly because the photo appears to be of the first propshaft UJ where it connects with the Gearbox/pto. It does look as though the Gearbox/PTO seal is leaking, but, this is an entirely different prospect/animal to the prop-shaft bearing post that you have added to.

I would start a new thread with your original question and see if there are any contributors with that specific experience.
