my wife is running a 2007 petrol panda 4x4 and in the last 6months the gearbox has got noisy, whining like the original mini, in the last few weeks it has stated kicking out of third gear when it has warmed up and is under load (usually going uphill). Our good village garage have offered to get the gearbox rebuilt by a specialist ( not much change from £1K after the rebuild and we have paid the garage to take it out and out it back and added on the VAT).
Our much loved panda had one owner from new when we bought it 18months ago, and a full fiat service history, we've kept the service history up through the local garage and it has not been abused (hardly any off road use and only light at that). Just clocked up 40K, have we been unlucky as I can't find anything on the internet about this being a common problem? I also assume I'll struggle to find a secondhand gearbox at a scrapyard.......any help or suggestions would be gratefully received as I need to make a decision regarding the repairs as my wife relies on the car for work.
