hello,

well ive just got my new pc and on it ive installed Outlook 2007. ive added all the email details and set that up but i want all my old e-mails. Now whats the best way to go about this? im using Pop3/SMTP with my webhost and i was using outlook 2003 on my old computer.

is there anyways i can transfer from computer to computer? i was hoping once connected it would do this through the server for me but it hasnt.

any advice would be much appreciated

Most of the time Outlook will download the messages from the server and delete them frm it, as seems to be the case here.

As far as I know there's no way to back up all of your messages without saving each individual one but it's been a while since I've used Outlook so can't say for sure.

Under the File menu in 2003, is there an Export option ?

I have used Outlook in various guises, and have been running 2007 for ages - yet I can keep all my my emails on the mail servers, just make sure the correct box is ticked in the email setup.

1.On your old PC. So a file search for *.pst. When you find it save it to a USB stick or external hard drive.
2. Go to your new PC and copy the pst file to the my documents folder.
3. Open outlook and click on File>Open> outlook data file. Then browse to the location of the saved pst file.

You should see the old emails in Outllok 2007 as a seperate folder. You could then just leave it there or move it to your current active mailbox.

Hope this helps,

I don't use Exchange, I get my mail from various POP servers - but it is under the advanced email settings, aptly named 'Leave a copy of the mail on the servers'.

If I then delete it from Outlook, it also deletes it from the server as well :)
