OTish, Problem with VW??

My mum's gonna away for a few weeks and left me with the house and insured on her VW polo, its just an old lil 1.4 r reg, i was driving today, the handbrake light went off and it was beeping, made my way home as quickly as possible, then the fuel dropped from half way to zero, then the oil light went on the the speedo went mental and stopped working, a swift smack to the top of the dash board and it worked again, i know its prob just a fault dash board but... could anything more sinister be behind this?
