OT - What can I use as MDF primer?

HI,

Does anyone know what i can use as MDF primer before i spray it? Daz you must know as your a joiner arent you?

any primer will do the job. spray on or bursh on, it's not critical like the bodywork of the car as it's not being subjected to the same environment.

i think u need a cellulose sealer otherwise the paint will just absorbe into the wood and flake apart??? not 100% sure tho

MDF primer, made by international. Red tin from B&Q, homebase etc..

Daz aint a joiner but his mate Tafi is handy with a saw!

acrylic primer undercoat should do, 2 coats.
it's water based and dries in about 15 mins or so.

yup am a painter & decorator.

Cover it with glue, then primer, then paint...

It was on a DIY program this morning...lol

and no i'm not a joiner...but i am good with my piece of wood

Primer

Just about anything will do to prime MDF (emulsion's as good as anything) but the trick, esp if yr spraying it is to apply two thin coats and lightly sand after each one, as MDF will go slightly "fluffy" when u first paint it. Sand this off and you'll end up with a finish like glass when u spray it.

HI all,

thanks for the posts, ive been to b&q and got myself some of their mdf primer, and some matt black spray paint. Im going to try the sanding thing, and hopefull ill post pics tomorrow eve if all is well!
