No it's not code for something unsavoury!

The Avro Vulcan that has been restored here at Bruntingthorpe is due for it's first flight today. The national press are here and it's really rather busy.

It was due to take off yesterday after a few million pounds worth of investment but after a few systems tests and a couple of aborted takeoffs they are ready to go today. Read more on the restoration project at http://www.tvoc.co.uk

I've been told it will be taking off for a short test flight first before landing again for a final check over. Then it will leave Bruntingthorpe and head out over the north sea for it's airworthyness licence testing. It sadly willnot be returning to Bruntingthorpe again after testing as it will be based at RAF Duxford from today.

So if you're out and about today and you hear something very very loud flying overhead, it could just be XH558.

oh and look out for my bravo too lol ;)

I've seen XH558 may times over the years and it was a sad day when she was retired. It is fantastic to now see her ready to fly again. Let's hope that we see her majestic beauty in the skies again very soon. Depending on her route, we may even get a glimpse of her here at work as she goes out to sea or back again to Duxford which isn't too far away.

Nothing can beat the feeling you get when she does a low fly past at full throttle ;)

Thats great! I used to live quiteclose to Waddington airfield, This was a Vulcan bomber base. Used to love it when the traffic lights were at red Signifying that one was coming in to land. Also Finningly airshow used to open with a "scramble" of 4 Vulcans

awesome plane, saw it last year at Waddington (i think) air show, and was desperate for it to take off but it wasnt ready!
can only imagine how much someone would be ****ting their pants if they heard that flying above in the war!

Excellent Jay !!

Thanks for those :)

A truly beautiful plane.

TOO OLD TO PLAY FOOTBALL. TOO YOUNG TO PLAY GOLF

At last - a true peice of heritage restored!

My father was a chief tech on 617 and 44 sqn vulcans until he left the service. We've both been watching very closely for this to happen.
Well done Jay you lucky sod for being there. :)

It truly was one hell of a sight, a sharp intake of breath as it set off up the runway and i honestly couldn't help but cheer when it lifted off. It really did feel quite special to be there for it.
