OT - Sky+ recording with no subscription

I had sky plus but have since cancelled my subscription and am using the box to receive the freeview channels.
The problem is that since I have no subscription the hard drive features of the bx won't work so I can't watch anything from the hard drive or record anything on to it. Does anyone know if there's a way to get this to work **nudge nudge, wink wink** without having to take out another subscription ?
