OT - Location of 1.2 2001 punto engine number

as title really as far as i know the engine number is a 7-8 digit number at the left hand side of the crank casing, found one, just want to double check if this is right, if any body knows. its for my gf who has bought a car that has had engine replaced and needs to be recorded in the log
