One of our techy infrastructure guys turned up in his new car today.

One of these in black...

BMW MZ4 Coupe

Either he's up to his eyes in credit, shagging some rich bird (not likely) or we're paying him ridiculous amounts of money to do a job my 2 year old son could do :(

Either way, I'm sickeningly envious ! ;)

It's one of only 2 Beemers I like, the other being the current 6 Series...

I do love them Z4M's - They're absolutely stunning - Sat in one in Sytners in Derby and almost fell in love.

Unfortunately I've had to settle for this:

I prefer the 3 Series Coupé, but I don't have the sort of money lying around for a 335d !

@ Anon: If I was to retrain and do the same job, it would be a downwards step, trust me.

I think it's because this guy is single, no kids and is up to his nads in finance ;)

eyeballs in debt no doubt ;)

i don't really get the bmws, im yet to be in a reasonably priced one that makes me want it. so basic and over priced imho.

each to his own.... Its pretty common / normal to take out finance. Have you got mortgages at all? those are a lots more debt, llol. Just cause someone can afford a smart car, doesn't mean its not paid for. Sounds like jealousy to me...

for the record, i drive a skoda. So itd not cause i'm a bimmer driving w**ker. I'm not lucky enough to have the bmw yet...

Finance is ridiculous on a car, purely because of the depreciation. It's not like your house ever devalues over a lengthy period of time.

I do understand what you're saying Buzz, but financially it's ridiculous to have finance unless you've got enough in the bank to accumulate interest to pay the finance off!

Ha ha :)

ha ha nice one rob :) although i dont know what im smiling at my house is worth less :(

Marea, why settle for less?

Yeah very nice but how original is that guy's taste? and we all know what BMW drivers are like on the road.

when i had the mother-in-law's one series for a few weeks i noticed i was getting cut up more not thanked as much and was tailgated more often than i was in my citroen, why? because i was driving a bmw im 99% sure of it.

its not always the driver sometimes its the car that gives off the wrong impression.

Rob, that's short term. Give it another 30 years and they'll be worth treble what they're worth now. A Z4M certainly won't be :)

agreed finance on a car is stupidity. considering leasing next though as me and the mrs will only have one car between us (she aint driving the alfa!)

anyone spending money on pointless things at the moment is a fool! its a buyers market at the minute so forget the cars and get some property, you won't regret it!

i've been putting some silly offers in at the moment, but 6months down the line when they still can't sell/remortgage or whatever reason they will be up for negotiations ;)

G5een, you say finance is stupid, but leasing, where you pay for ALL the depreciation on the car, PLUS a generous profit margin, is somehow clever? Oookay then...

its hard to find a good lease deal, but when you do it works out better than buying the car. it's all about who you know.

the good thing with a lease is that you haven't got to worry about selling or maintaining it and its easy to budget, which, unfortunatly im doing rather a lot of right now. when you take depreciation etc into consideration theres not much in it price wise.

you see if i sell the alfa and the mrs car the money will pay for the whole lease and also earn me a bit of intrest or a dividend.

realisticly i'd be much better off with an older cheaper car like an astra or bravo (no disrespect or pun intended) but its an image thing. quite sad really.

you have 2 cars, which by the way you citicise finace, we can safely assume are fuly paid for assets. So lets say they are worth 5k. You will have to sell these assets, in order to RENT a new car from a company, who will NOT let you out of the rental agreement, and who at the end of the 3 years will skin you alive if you've done over 25,000 miles in THEIR car. You will then have to give them their car back. Now you have NO paid for assets, and no car. So where do you go from there.

Mr BMW on the finance package, pays roughly the same monthly payments as you, on his loan, but over 5 years. At the end of those 5 years he's repaid 28k on a £24k loan, but he has a car, fully paid for, worth about 9k. He can do as many miles as he likes in his 5 years.

You have thus far failed to show why leasing is a cheaper option for a personal user. Please illustrate for me where i'm going wrong, because every 2 years since i passed my test, i've changed cars, and each time, i've used the capital from my old car, plus a new personal loan to pay for a bigger/newer/better spec'd car. At the rate i'm going, i'm about 10 years off of buying myself a nearly new BMW 535D. If i try to lease one, i'll be limited to 10k miles a year (half what i need), and i'll be paying £550 a month for it!
