OT i hate virgin networks!

is anybody else suffering extremely low net speads now? since dropping my package to 2mb ive had nothing but trouble with my net they are officialy cutting net speeds to discourage who take advantage of their big download package, i for 1 am ending with virgin this month and going back to sky,i mean the house phone hardly ever works anymore its rediculas.

atleast sky is bloody cheaper for crap service lol

I've had Virgin Media since the beginning of time; when it was NTL and Cable & Wireless and never, ever had an issue.

Although saying that I don't have the phone package .. well.. I do.. but I don't actually have a phone to plug into the wall. Ha ha!!

4mbit at the moment currently being upgraded to 10mbit, never ever get anything less than 3900kbps on sync.

what new changes Mick?
i have been on blueyonder/virgin last 10years.

the only change they have done is implement traffic shaping(management)- i live in Wigan where we and preston were test candidates for this.We have had it for probably best part of 7-8 months. it has been rolled out nationally now for last 2-3 months. you will not see any letters regarding this mate. Trust me.

its no big deal. i download over 30-40gb a week and on occasion when i had 10mg -prob in excess of 50gb a week. never had no letters complaining or anything pal.

when you mention sky- do you have adsl or cable modem? reason being is that adsl is totally different! -your speeds are governed by how far you live from exchange and how many people are on at that time.

I have also been on telewest/blueyonder/virgin since the dawn of time. The only letters I get are for free upgrades. I am now running on the 20mb service which originally I started out on the 1mb service (which was the amzing double broadband at the time)

Never had any issues with them but as Ade says, I am on cable rather than down the telephone line.

Some lines will have a maximum speed no matter what package you go for. Ali (the mussus) can only get a max of 2mb on her line due to the distance from the exchange. That is the max she can get even if she went for a 10mb package.

its the "Why we're making some changes to virgin braodband which might affect the speed you get" letter its about the people that take **** with the amount of stuff they download basicley.

daytime thresold
10am - 3pm
20mb goes to 6gb max speed = 5mb
10mb goes to 2.4gb max speed = 2.5mb
4mbs goes to 2gb max speed = 1mb
2mb goes to 1gb max speed = 1mb

evining threshold
4pm - 9pm
20mb goes to 3gb max speed same as above^^^
10mn goes to 1.2gb
4mb goes to 1gb
2mb goes to 0.5gb

my modem is a cable modem ade which used to run through my belkin g+++ router which used to be good enough to play ps3 games online before i had my net turned down after i sold ps3. now my net is that bad i run straight from the black box, im only 60ft or so away from a green box that has had virgin workin on it before.

the customer service is shocking they take debits on the wrong days and wont pay the bank charges that i incur from there miss haps.

i will say for the first 6months their service was brill now all you get is crap the phone works for about 3 hours out of the day, it got that bad that i ended up gettin a contract with Tmobile to keep up with business related calls etc.

who is your home phone with then mick? because if you have cable then you cant use SKY. have you spoken to Virgin, because they are normally quick at getting an engineer out who would rectify the problem?
never really had any probs with Virgin. tech support bit iffy, but Payments etc, even free upgrades have been all good

Think yourselves lucky. My package allowed for a full 75kbps download speed once.
512 ADSL unlimited. I'll say one thing though, its reliable!

Dread you will see letters soon i got mine yesterday.... so they are sending them out.... Important Changes to your Broadband on the front of the envelope and a nasty letter stating that 2mb customers downloading at peak times i.e 4pm-9pm will now only get 0.5mb etc.... i also noticed something wrong this week i have been so close to throwing my PS3 through the window because i cant play a decent game of COD4 without disconnecting or lags even more so this week when i received the letter yesterday.... can scan and post on here for all to see if ya's want.

If heaven is a place on earth why is it such a hell of a place to live.
Oh and dont pee on hot coals it smells.....so i have heard!

my fone is with virgin and everytime i called an engineer out all i got was sorry mr calvert we are russhed off our feet can we arange a time through the week.

also there is a bt point in the house although that isnt needed they can (not supposed to) but can use eachothers lines

ash some of cant afford exspensive broadband due to no monies lol
