I was wondering if its possible to somehow find out the the PC's memory type via some sort of command or program.

I.e 512mb DDR PC2700 etc

Basically i will be doing a Laptop upgrade and need the correct type of RAM to do the upgrade.

Also the RAM is expandable to 1024MB but i also want to up the Hard Disk aswell. Thing is it possibly to just fit another hard disk? Is it as simple as removing the old and plugging in the new?

Thanks for any help in Advance.

Just remembered how.

The BIOS.

Ok please ignore this.

Thanks Anyway.

If you only have one hard drive, you may aswell just plug an extra one in ;)

Ah right, cheers guys thats great. Dan those programs are very useful thanks.

Daz do you mean just buy an external one?

Well i tried lastnight, but i was having great difficulty with the catches and everything, plus my screw driver was marking the laptop. I doubt the Laptop has an extra space inside for another HD.

Find a local PC shop and get them to do it.
I got my laptop upgraded to about 600 mb for about £80, it was from 64mb iirc. And they fitted it for free.
Memory is probably the only main thing that can be upgraded however, because of the space issue.
CPU-Z (google) is the program that 99% of computer geeks :) use to find the system specs such as memory etc, it also tells you a lot more.
Consider getting an external hard drive for your laptop which can just plug into the USB port.

Cheers,

Will sort something out then. I'm a qualified electronic and computer builder just hate daming new things that cost abit of £££'s.

Will prob get an external instead.

"CPU-Z (google) is the program that 99% of computer geeks use to find the system specs such as memory etc, it also tells you a lot more."

That quote is so incorrect :)

I guess if you were a geek, like me, Daz and Rob (and I'm sure a few others on here) then you'd know your CPU/memory/Clock speed without using CPU-Z ;)

I know the insides out of my PC, its just i got a Laptop and i dunno its full detail, i.e On the box it states its specification but on an upgrade point of view you need to know exactly what speed the parts are running at, all i need was a program to tell me what the RAM was.

I'm no geek but i know my stuff about PC's.

So far i've lived life without this proagram.

OK i'll re-phrase that. CPU-Z is what 99% of computer geeks use to prove their system specs ;)
No ones gonna believe you clocked your comp to 7.2Ghz without a screenie and CPU-Z is available to prove this.

and yes I know what's in my comp as I built it. Just about any laptop will be pre-bought and most people will not know the memory chip manufacturer etc.
