I have photoshop CS3 and i was wondering if its possible to take a specific colour off a webpage? I've no means of getting it as theres no source code for the colour. Is it possible to use some kind pipette on CS3 or similar to take a colour from a webpage i.e go off the screen and select the colour.

I need the colour number more than the colour itself if you get what i mean.

Only way i can do it is to print screen, paste the page and then use the pipette, is there an easier way?

I'm no photoshop expert but I would say that unless you can locate any html code with the colour code, the best way is as you suggest (screen print).

print screen wont get u the right colour as its different. what u do is..go to the top of ur page to the menu bars..go to view and then click source..then all the coding for the website will come up. the colour code will be in there. its a 6 digit figure.

Print screening has always worked for me. The colour is sometimes hidden away in the CSS.

As mentioned shaun theres no colour info in the html coding. Its within a style script. I guess i'll be carrying on with the print screen method.

Use this...

http://www.nattyware.com/pixie.html

Its free and very small. It's like the colour picker in photoshop but works for the whole PC screen. It will give you RGB and HEX colour codes and you can copy the colour code straight to your clipboard.

Photoshop CS2 can do it without any additional software, i'd be surprised if CS3 couldn't.
Using the eyedropper/pipette tool just click and hold in your photoshop canvas then drag untill your over the colour you want to sample. Photoshop will allow you to drag the eyedropper outside the photoshop environment this way. You will need to make you photoshop screen half size with the screen you want to sample from below unless your using dual screens.

Hope that helps someone!

As ben said I'm pretty sure the Eyedropper can be used outside the Photoshop window. I know it definitely can in GIMP anyway.

i always read the source code but method is upto you, i suppose they all work....

I've looked at CS3 and i can't do it. Those with CS2 how do you do it, do you need to press CTRL or ALT when you go off the main CS workspace?? Also whats the actual tools name.

Restore the photoshop window so it isnt maximised, then select the eyedropper (pippete (sp?)) tool and then click within the photoshop image, keep the mouse button pressed and then move the cursor outside of the photoshop window.

Just tried it to make sure and it does work.
