Ok i have an old hard drive that got a virus, i didnt wipe the HD as i had a new one so just removed it and put the other one in. Now i am looking at putting a HD in my PS2 so my question is:
1.Is there any way of wiping all information of the HD without having to connect it to my PC
2. I have a HD caddy, would the virus spread onto my HD if i plugged it into the caddy to wipe?
You could format it using fdisk.
Get it from http://www.23cc.com/free-fdisk/
Once you have put the fdisk image onto a floppy shutdown your computer.
Disconnect your hdd/s and attach the one you want to format.
Boot your computer and enter the bios, makesure it is booting from floppy as first boot device.
You should then be able to run and use fdisk to format your hdd. See an fdisk user manual on how to do that.
This will only work if the virus is not in the boot sector of the hdd.
just connect the caddy and do a format on it mate, then you can either format the drive with hdloader or use winhiip, which will create the ps2 structure. wouldnt worry about all that malarky. run a virus scan, format and bobs your uncle.
any viruses present will be erased because you use a different file structure..similar to linux.
