*OT* Best Diesel Engine?

Does anyone know what other company the JTD was produced in copiration with??

It was a fiat/alfa design produced in co-operation with Bosch afaik. Regarding ownership and all the rest just click here for the wiki

re

cars available i'd buy 535d too i think,

but i have read soem very promising things about the new subaru boxer diesel engine. . . but its not out yet and i expect there will eb teethign problems?

Interesting to read on that wiki above that Fiat are planning a twin-stage turbo version of the 1.9 JTD running 180 and 190 bhp (180 for all markets, 190 for Fiat group only)

Doesn't the 535d defeat the object, I know someone with one and he gets an average 21mpg !

I heard about the new 123d, but never saw any figures for it.

All I can say is wow....... they're certainly some impressive ones.... two years down the line and they'll be about 10k to buy.

NICE :)

hi mate i know u said u wanted a diesel engine but have u considered an evo 5-6 there 280hp standard
and my mate had an evo 5 that was 450hp after unwinding the turbo, air filter, dump valve and cams and now the car has been sold to warrinder who have spell £1 million on it and it runs at just over 900hp

now evo's u can tune to the eyeballs lol

at 20,000 miles per year (minimum) and 10MPG, I'd be looking at a very expensive fuel bill.

i still stand by my beliefes that the best diesel engine is a petrol :p

although i have to say im seriously impressed with the jtd unit in my mums GP, but more so in a mates 335 coupe (e92)

that thing is ferocious, and still returns better mpg than patch :s its had a remap and oh my lord!!! drop that in a one series and oh my lord that would be unbelieveable!!!

By the end of this year, i plan to be a net producer of biodiesel, so if i had a 535D at 400bhp and was only getting 20mpg, i think i could live with it quite happily. By my calculations, (ignoring the initial (high) setup costs) It would only cost me about 50p a litre to produce. There are complicated tax rules regarding biodiesel but 50p a litre i reckon is achievable without breaking the law.
I heard about the subara diesel last year, and forgot all about it. I'm not holding my breath for it.
Can you believe the figures BMW are pulling out of that 2.0 litre lump though? I want one! i bet its their smoothest and most refined diesel engine ever!
