Optimax..is it worth.

I know this is an old thread now but I was recently talking to an old friend who happens to work at a near by refinery & we got onto the subject of fuels n such.

I told him that I was only filling my HGT up with Shells Optimax & he asked me why?

For the performance & the extra bits in it I replied... He laughed at me & said that I should buy the cheap stuff from the supermarkets instead since the tankers that arrive at the refinery all get filled with the exact same fuel from the exact same storage tanks be it Shell, BP, Jet, Total etc!!!

He mentioned that all the fuels have had extras like detergents added for years & they all use the same crap.

There does seem to be a lot of chuntering on the Optimax website regarding the actual RON value of the fuel since I must admit I have never seen it written anywhere on or near a pump I have used.

Anyway I am currently ignoring his advice until I check out a few supermarkets and from early this week been using BP Ultimate. It would appear I have managed to get another 80 miles from my tank this week using this stuff even while exercising the full travel of that right pedal as often as I can.

i dont know about mpg, as i mix it mostly, but i have seen reveiws where people have seen differences of as much as 50 miles per tank less when only using the cheapest supermarket fuel, compared to using branded super unleaded...
