General Onboard telematics software

Hi,

Well if you have any luck, let us know.

Driving around today with the 5.4 software, I notice some good improvements - it now puts road numbers on the map, and it puts motorway junctions on the map.... and as for the new English female voice, sounds like my old English teacher at school. Hmmmm.....

John :D

Is this update for the the ordinary Connect NAv system as well as the Connect Nav Plus

What new features does it bring and anyone updated on the Connect Nav

Hi,

Did mine today and I only have Connect. It is great, the voice for the navigator is now a human sounding voice. Also the text based traffic alerts are active, these are sent out by radio stations. So far only Classic FM is the only station which seems to be active. There is also an extra audio menu.

Also warning symbols have changed, it now also tells you which door is open in text as well on the picture. Wonder if the tyre pressure system will now tell you which wheel. I expect other things have been added which I will find later.

Well worth the 5 minutes of upgrade. Whatever happens don't remove the CD until it auto ejects and the update is complete.

I believe the text based traffic alerts are more prevalent in mainland Europe. Looks like I'll have to listen to some classical music to see that in action for now :-(

I agree with poggy I only have Connect and it works great well worth the time to do it. The voice that navigates you is now really clear and also speaks a lot slower, there is a lot more functions on the radio but the dreaded digitized voice is still their when she does not get your command properly and also when telling you the street address name. Also did you notice poggy that in the what can I say menu that a few words are printed twice strange.

Hi,

Quick question - how many people have the male voice rather than female? If you switched to a male voice, what you you think of it as opposed to 'Miss Strict'?

John

Hi,

I always fancied my old English teacher, so it is bit distracting having the female voice.

Guess most men are used to taking orders of women, so find it second nature to be bossed around by the lady behind the dash lol.

Hi

Spoke to local Fiat dealer on Saturday. They are looking into 5.4 upgrade [either through official sources or using a burnt disk that I will supply...]

However, the technician did warn me about things going wrong if instructions not followed to the letter - to replace the head unit outside warranty is £1200. Obviously if a technician messes up, you are covered!

Just a word of warning - I know a few of you have already updated successfully!

Hi,

I haven't noticed any reduction in features, only improvements. As for the warranty, if it does go wrong make sure you get the disk out before you take it to the dealer. Most problems appear to be due to cheap CDR's and the 90 minute versions which the unit can't read. They get stuck in the CD player but won't upload any software.

Main thing is not to eject until the upgrade is complete and make sure the engine is running so it doesn't go into economy mode.

Knowing the average Fiat dealer they wouldn't notice the software change anyway even if you did upgrade and something went wrong later. As the manuals don't tell you not to upgrade the software then I am pretty sure they can't stop you claiming under warranty as the unit should be set up only to update using valid software. I know they charge £1,200.00 to replace the unit, but I am sure you could ask to get it fixed instead as it would only mean a memory wipe and then re-program. The problem is you would be without the unit for a while.

Good luck and this is only my opnion so don't blame me if it goes wrong.

I fully agree with Poggy - if you do decide to do it, use good quality 'normal capacity' CDRs - not extended capacity or CDRW. It'd be safer to have your dealer do it though (if they are agreeable).

It's well worth it though - full screen map, extra road details on the map, and extra zoom settings alone makes it worthwhile in my books (as I do a lot of driving in areas I don't know)...

Hi all can someone please tell me how I can find out which software I am running in my Ulysse?

After all when I first got my car it only spoke french,3 weeks later my dealer said it`s ok we have got the disc to make it talk english but they had to keep the disc so what version of the disc they had?

Please help me someone?

Also got my dealer to turn on the "connect" service later this week after telling me that I "may" have to pay for the first year even though in the specs list they stated it was free in the first year!

Hope to get a reply soon

Paul

Hi,

Right, to get the version hold down the Menu Key for a few seconds [I think off the top of my head, or it could be Main!] - this comes to a sub menu where you can select System details.

If they are holding back the disk, it looks like version 5.32 [5.31 was given out to owners].

And finally, you shouldn't have to pay for first year - the form they fill out ensures this. The year should start from activation!!

OK?
