GEARBOX FAILURE

I have one of the first multipla's, and the gearbox keeps slipping, either going uphill over 30mph (slips out of 3rd)or on a motorway (it slips out of 5th)

My friend has a similar multipla with less mileage and had to have the complete gearbox changed. The garage told them it was a common DESIGN problem that the older multipla gearboxes are slipping and failing.

If this is a design fault, does anyone have anymore information.

Thanks

like i posted before...my 2001 105 JTD did the same, during a long trip the 5th started to jump out to neutral and i had to drive back it with my hand holding the gear handle:( .
This got worse later affecting all the shifting until one day it stayed locked on the 1st gear.

The gearbox was rebuilt some cogs and bearings where replaced. But it stills makes a very light grinding noise on the 5th or thats me that I never trusted that repair shop ...
