Today i as the title says got a message saying Oil Pressure warning pull over and turn off engine
I recently had the car remapped and i have a GSR with a slight possibility of damp getting in as it has been hammering it down here.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to why i got this.

Thanks

I also had the same fault/mesage a while back, started up in the morning to go to work then bing, oil press. warning, followed by panic, switch off an check levels, leaks etc. all fine, stayed messing me about all the 20 miles to work, booked it in to agents, they found no fault either, so with cleared fault code, it has never returned, prob. a bad contact on the sender unit, I hope you have the same luck as well volxstu !

Well the car seems to work ok, i will be sure to see any leaks on the pavement tomorrow and i will check the oil level as soon as i can but it raining cats and dogs ATM
Thanks for the replies.
I take it now i need to wipe the fault code if there is nothing wrong. If so does anybody know where i could get a reader (preferably 1 that can run off a PC as i am fitting a computer in the car and would be cool to be able to have it as a feature)

You dont need to clear fault codes. Once the fault is fixed, the codes will go after 3 restarts. What engine is it and how many miles?

No it hasnt and this is the first time that i have had a problem in the wet in over a year of having the GSR. She a 1.6 and done 24K miles.

I would think about investing in one ..cos just like unprotected sex sh*te happens..see your friendly moderator T14 bet he got a shed load stashed away..;)

I don't understand how an induction kit and remap can affect an oil pressure switch?

A common fault on the 1.6 is faulty non-return valves in the oil filter (when was it last changed?) which allow the oil to drain back to the sump when switched-off which then causes an initial delay in oil delivery to the switch on the next start-up. Fit a new (good quality/genuine) filter and you're away, no more warnings. There will not be a fault stored.

Fiat also released updated instrument panel ECU parameters for problem vehicles within warranty which allowed a minor increase in time before it decides to monitor/warn of low oil pressure (though if I remember rightly it was a replacement cluster, not a 'flash' update).

Right the problem is persisting. I currently have a hellfrauds filter on there so i will change that to a genuine fiat 1.
I checked the oil today whilst engine was warm and there is nothing on dipstick, but i only toped up about a week after i serviced it i believe towards the end of the summer.
So should a 1.6 use a lot of oil
Would having low oil cause this problem even though i have no low oil warnings.
Any help would be much appreciated (y)

Most definitely :(

You only check your oil level 3 to 4 times a year

I'd say that's a bit unwise on a 1.6

Well wont the oil warning light come on if its that low and yeah i would say about every 1/4. But this is the 1st time there has been nothing on the dipstick surely if there is nothing on the dipstick the light should come on.

Can't say for certain but on most cars the oil warning light IS a pressure switch.

Either way, you shouldn't rely purely on instrumentation but double check with the dipstick.

Did you not know your engine uses oil - any oil patches

If you are low on oil, and driving (especially in curves) you will get the low oil pressure warning. It doesn't understand it's running low, and assumes low pressure, as the pressure looses from the piston rods and their bearings (around the crank shaft) when oil bounces around the sump. Result - wrecked engine, new result - pretty expensive fix.

Where does your oil actually go????

Well no oil patches so its not leaking anywhere but i dont exactly drive at low revs so it could just be using it up quickly i will top it up in the morning and see what happens.

I keep it at high revs aswell. Did 7k RPM today at the highway, and hey! the cold air feed in the dash suddenly started working like woooooooooooosh after months being completely dead. I'm all happy now.

But anyway, mine doesn't use oil at all. It did once, when I had a crappy oil filter. No traces of oil, like yours, but still I had to top up half a litre now and then. Fiat filter (bought from MSC trading at e-Bay) and it's been perfect since. Start with a genuine filter and some synthetic oil. 5-40 is ok, but I know Argon is the 0-30 Jedi.

Well i have used 5-40 not 100% sure which brand but branded. I dont understand how the oil filter can make you use more oil.

I've often seen minor oil leaks from oil filters on the 1.6 due to the fitter not fully tightening it, and more often than not it's a non-genuine filter fitted by a non-Fiat garage (not saying Dealer Tech's are immune to this error- it's just what I've noticed on Safety Checks when vehicles are brought in for other work). You'll see it clearly running down the filter when looking under the car if that's the case.

Remember, as has been said, the oil warning light measures oil pressure, not level. The dipstick only reads the top 0.5-1 litre in the sump, so although the level may not register on it, you may still have 3+ litres still in there, and as long as the pick-up pipe is submerged you won't have the warning light come-on.

If the "low oil pressure" warning only occurs on start-up then I doubt it's due to low oil levels, and more likely the filter draining overnight. ;)
