Morning

How do you get that oil filter off? 1.2 8v engine, thing just isn't budging. Can really fork out for a chain tool, think I will be ok just to pop a screw driver through it?

Just scared I go through the sump with it.

long screwdriver will be fine
or an old fan belt and mole grips
wear gloves and remember oil will go everywhere
get the same filter too before you mash it theres 3 types

Cheers guys! I don't have my clamp with me so unfortunately it's the bloody approach!

I've come across the 2 diameters, never realised there were 2 lengths.

I presume they are for different engine types?

cant help as all the filters ive fitted lately have all been the middling squat fatty one
but theres
a small thin one
a small fat one
a long thin one
:D

if it dont budge it means 2 thing

Somebody over-tightened it when refitting it

or the seals dried rock solid on to block = lack of changes

If you dont mind making a mess
I've be tempted to try
Plumper plies
Screwdriver through the filter

But the best tools are belt tools that loosen the filter but grip tighter too!

I like the socket type removal tools. Access to the filter on my MR2 tub is so bad that nothing else will fit (and turbocharger burns your hand). Puntos -- and just about anything else -- are a piece of **** by comparison.

ah
the only toyota not to have a recal?
:D

So that's oil and filter changed, with lack of correct tool I opted for lightly hammering screwdriver into the filter. Good thing I had newspapers underneath the car. Had a bit of a fight getting the sump plug back in though
