Technical Odometer gone weird!

Mrs_G's Cargo's odometer has gone weird. it just shows 5 dashes "-----" when total miles is selected.

All other functions of the display (trip mpg, live mpg, trip miles etc) work fine.

Any thoughts?

It can't cope with the mileage you're clocking up, it's gone on strike

The last mileage was approx 248,500 miles (400,000 km), possibly that is the limit FIAT put on it.
Other answers may be obtained by scrolling to the bottom of the page for similar problems with Stilo's etc.

Yes, perhaps it's limited to 250,000 and it has to be reset by a dealer... strange though!

It didn't get to 250,000 miles. It will get that milestone on Saturday (I think). Mrs_G is currently adding her daily trip mileage to the last definate mileage to keep a record of total miles.

Anyone got a phone number for fiat tech support so that I can ask them if the odometer has a maximum?

Have you tried scrolling to the bottom of the page for similar problems?

I disconnected the van battery for an hour or so to see if that would cure the problem - it did As an added bonus it was showing about 1000 miles less than the real mileage (Last known total mileage plus distances displayed on trip between refueling).

When I then drove off in the van I checked that the other functions (trip, trip mpg, mpg etc) were working ok. Feeling pleased I continued to 'scroll' around the displays to get back to total mileage and it showed -----. Bummer!!

never heard of this before.......you say all other functions are ok-are they accurate?

I know you wont want to do this but would be interesting to hook it up to computer to see if mileage is 'going up' & what mileage it is currently displaying.

As far as I can tell the other functions are working as well as before.

Trip mileage is right for the regular run this van does - 360 - 370 miles.
Mpg & Trip Mpg seem to be as optomistic as before - reported Trip Mpg was 60.1 over the day, manual calculation mpg was 51.1 (362 miles / 32.85 litres to refill * 4.546).
Trip time seems ok as does trip average speed.

I've mentioned this to the garage that are due to service the van on Saturday. They will connect it to their diagnostic computer and see if it shows anything. If not I may have to pay out and take it to the local fiat dealer and see if their system can pinpoint the fault.

Well the van went for its 250,000 mile servive on Saturday. They plugged it into their diagnostic computer but other than a 'low voltage' stored error from when the battery was recently replaced there were no errors found. The ECU had a total of 398,000 ish kilometers stored in it.

Had a wierd one last weekend, on the way to the airport. The disp;ay, which was on MPG, suddenly went to a line of dashes. Few presses of the button showed that the Trip section had reset itself, although the total mileage was still OK!
