General OBD2 diagnostic reader

Hi looking for advice on my 2005 Motorhome fitted with 244 2.8JTD engine. Tried my diagnostic tool with no joy, is the socket an OBD11, or does it require an adaptor. Getting no communication messages. Also which reader is recommended for engine diagnostics in particular. Having problems with pre-heat not functioning. Communicator has been helping me with this side, but my lack of maintenance know how shows. Any assistance gratefully received

Hi Dave,

The socket is indeed OBD2, but as @Ocwobio has said, you need software that speaks fluent Fiat.

Hi further to my previous post I have downloaded the free version fro MES and ordered an interface from EBay. Description says it has been modified so hopefully no connection issues

I got an interface & MES software from Scantool-Direct when I had an ABS issue. The free software doesn't get into the ABS ECU. The interface is switchable to the required ECU, Engine, ABS, Airbag etc. Currently got another ABS issue. I assumed it was the other side which MES has proven. Great kit. The MES User Guide is useful for reference getting connected.
