I have a mate and we have each other on instant messanger, and we can swap e-mails BUT we cant see when each other is online, not got each other blocked or anything, so am stumped......
Currently reading:

My Dad & I had a similar problem. I could see him online, but he couldn't see me. We could still exchange messages though. Never did work it out.
Maybe try removing each other from your respective lists and re-adding, ensuring you have the correct email addresses for each other.

you the phone and call eachother. if they don't answer they're busy or ingnoring you... saves changing the icon on messenger too
