O/T - How long can I record for?

Hi guys,

Sorry for the completely O/T post!!

I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario and I want to use the sound recording function (ahem) discreetly (ahem) in a meeting at work. The meeting normally lasts for around an hour and I want to record as much audio as possible. How long would I be able to record for (approximately) on a 1GB SD card??
I realise that this is a completely random post, but maybe someone, somewhere has done something similar!!

Many thanks,

Martin

Easiest thing would be to slap it on record now and before the meeting and leave it. See how long it goes for before it stops. Then once you have a time. Just delete the recording.

It all depends on the format/compression you want to record in and the available space you have left. Some devices will place a limit, others won't. On my Nokia's, in the past, I could get any length of time, it all depended on how much memory I had left. I'd have thought that as long as there is no application restriction on length, 1GB should easily get you an hour, especially on a Mono setting.

I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with the MDA.

i'm guessing

I'm guessing that your having a meeting of some sort....or you've had it

Yeh I had a meeting at work yesterday with senior management, pretty important too and I really could have done with recording it. Oh well!!

re

if it was an important meeting surelyt someone woudl of been taking minutes?

or if its any type of disciplinary or anythgin the only one i ever had when i worked at a supermarket it was written out word for word and i had to sign it off

Yeh minutes were taken but you know how it is, some things are said "off the record" and its these comments that I wanted proof of. Not just that, but also just in case I missed anything that was said, as not everything is minuted (although it should be).....

re

ah right, well, i'd say depending how covert you wanted to be wither ask for it to be added that you weren't happy that comments were being made and not minuted or minute them yourself - but i know if i was trying to minute it then it'd be a hell of a long meeting by the time i write it down!

Just to add that comments recorded without the prior knowledge of all participating parties wouldn't stand up anyway.

Just buy a dictaphone and tell them your going to record them. Put it on the table and press record.

If you tell them you are going to it it will hold up.

I don't think they can tell you not too as you wan't it for your personal reference.

still having problems at work mate i see.

want me to come sort this bint out for u

smee

Thanks for all the input guys :)

What I am trying to do is catch audible proof of what is being said so that I can play it back to another colleague to seek further advice. Although a dictophone would be the perfect solution, I dont want them to know that I am trying to catch them out. Similarly with the minutes, if I state that I'm not happy that 'off the record' comments aren't being minuted, they may stop sharing them, then I have no way of obtaining the proof I need.

Smee, cheers for the offer, I'll keep you in mind ;)
