General Nurburgring...

Well, I was talking to my co driver about it and it went like

'No'

'NO'

'Mmm.. well the winter palace would be nice at that time of year....'

Still working on Al:eek:

but I think the working title of 'To Russia with (man) love' is putting him off, hehehehehehehehe!

Hi Jim!

The alternative route is: border in Świecko, thru Rzepin to A2 motorway near Nowy Tomyśl. Then 160 miles on A2 to Strykow, the end of A2 in that moment. From Strykow to the border in Terespol thru Łowicz, Warsaw and Siedlce.
Part of A2 is paid, 33 zlotys (about 6 pounds).
You can do a shortcut between Łeczyca and Łowicz on secondary road thru Piatek, avoiding jams in the end of A2.
This route is shorter than my variant thru Silesia, but more dangerous, becouse it's main route of big trucks between West and East. And only about 40 % is on motorway. My variant is about 80 miles longer, but about 70 % is on motorway (not paid) and express road. And it's sligtly closer to Gorlitz than Świecko from 'Ring.
In January I was returning from Winter Panda Meeting in the mountains near Kłodzko. The weather was fine, roads dry and I chose variant thru Strzelin, part of A4, Opole, Lubliniec and Czestochowa. About 280 miles in 7 hours, but in 4x4. In fwd Panda would be about 6 hours, becouse I rarely exceed 60 mph in 4x4.
And remember about EU border jams between Poland and Belarus. Sometimes it takes several hours to get to Belarus.

PS. The Winter Palace is in Petersburg, I think ;-)

Pfingstwochenende ist vom 25. bis 28. Mai.

:) Best wishes Tom :)

Mmmm.. Sounds interesting!

I've booked a ferry from Belfast this friday meeting some non panda friends in London and then taking the euro tunnel on sat night to get to Germany some time on sunday...

Anyway, am trying new ways to get photos back

Just trying My.opera at the min

or the blog album that I can send from my phone...

http://my.opera.com/JUPPY/albums/

just some test images from my phone at the min so nothing interesting

I shouldnt worry too much about German bank holiday traffic, its not anything like as bad as here, IMHO I would avoid autobahns if you can, they are very dull and the main roads are far quieter and scenic. Ive driven a lot of miles in Germany, and loved it all.

As for Poland, some of the roads are bad, some are better than the UK, but all have slow moving trucks, FSOs and 126s (which is a good thing). Its a fairly entertaining place to drive but you do need nerves of steel. The borders from Germany are good... however we have been from Poland into Czech Republic and back several times and the guards can be funny at times, so in Sylvia you might get lots of unwanted attention!!!!

To be honest I'm not going to see too much traffic as the Belfast to London will be done over night fri/sat and I'm getting the 23.30 Eurotunnel on the Sat (long nap in London) and will head the 400 or so miles again over night....

Picking up the Co-Driver from Frankfurt-Hahn who's comming in on the Ryanair from Dublin so we'll only have 60 or so miles of driving each way on the sunday.

Remember to keep an eye out on monday on the ring cam

http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/webcams.html

You never know who you might see, lol!:D

After on the tuesday I've not thougth of where to go next... Czech Republic sounds nice but so does Italy... Can't make my mind up!!!

Jim

have a great time !!! i loved the autobahn -though it scared the **** out of us in the 126  :p
hope you get to meet up with some other pandas , poland is great and to be recommended if you have time.
take care

Awww... Ta.

At least Sylvia is a bit better kitted out for the Autobann than the one twenty six with twice the number of cylinders and CC, hehe!

Poland sounds fun but I'm going to have to compromise with the 'co-driver'.
Alan's not going on this one cause of his work (end of quarter something or other, Personally I think its the company gang bang and he dosent' want to tell me...) so my mate Al is sitting in from Frankfurt and he's not really decided what he wants to do for a week in a panda with me somewhere in Europe

Poland sounds fun and at least if Sylvia plays up, going from what the Polish owners have said on here they'll carry her back to the border on their backs if needed (and hopefully not, lol)

Jim

We are waiting. Send me pm if you'll decide to go to Poland. I'll give you my phone numbers.
