Hi I have just purchased a fiat bravo 150 multijet sport diesel which i am over the moon with apart from one thing...

when i test drove it i noticed the gear change was not the best and it was hard to select gears i put it down to me being new to driving it and me driving a automatic most of the time but my wife was out in it all day yesterday and she noticed to the same and she cant seem to get used to it do i need to book into get it checked???

where i brought it from did say the gear change is hard to get used to so i am asking for your advice on this one is this correct or has he just told me this because he know there was a problem ...HELP PLEASE

A problem on the 6 speed boxes is corrosion in the selector cables, due to water ingress. It makes gear selection hard, especially when the engine is cold in winter.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

The Bravo seems to have a slightly 'stiffer' gear change than most in my opinion, however nothing near as stiff as BMW diesels.

Mine on my 2.0 Multijet has always been a bit 'notchy' / clunky since I bought it with very low mileage so have always assumed it's normal.

Most likely just the linkages. On the coldest days of winter this year I had to let my car warm up for 20 minutes just so I could change gear as the linkages were frozen solid!
Mine did it at 6 months old and were replaced with updated cables. No problems in 3 years.

Wife taken car into fiat today it was something to do with a cables on gearbox (I think that's what she meant ) part order £236 will be fixed Friday

I booked mine in with Fiat for that a couple of other things just before the warranty ran out but the appointment was 2 days after. The guy on the phone didn't say that would an issue but when I got there they wouldn't look at it as its was just out of warranty, so I'll have to just make do.:bang:

Surely if you had made the booking before it has expired then that is ok? It is there problem if they can't fit you in any sooner. Have you contacted Fiat about this?

In my local dealer you sometimes have to wait weeks to get a booking as they are quite small - unfortunately they are few and far between in the Southampton / Hampshire area as well as not particularly good in my experience!

That's what I thought but apparently not. The local one to me is fairly useless but thought I would give them a try. That was in January so the car is now a long time out of warranty so doubt Fiat UK would do anything.

We have chrysler delta with same layout and tbh the gear change is way too soft, it just falls into gear in a lazy fashion and doesn't feel at all precise or mechanical the exact opposite of your situation! It is fine but not really much fun to use and imprecise for rushed changes

That is interesting. Which Delta do you have?

limited 165 multijet AKAIK mechanicals are pretty much identical to the bravo hence why I lurk here. The gearchange is pretty effortless and is fine except if you really want to rush a change in which case there is a risk to miss the gate as it's not overly precise when rushed. It was built 1st august 2011 so may include improvements missing from older bravos (??)
