I finally got fed up with seeing rusty brown water in my header tank and so decided to give the engine a good flushing. One heavy duty two part flush kit and six drains, flushes, fills and runs around the block later I had lovely blue water in my tank.

Being a natural cynic I was expecting problems, like half a dozen leaks that had been blocked by limescale, etc, but none appeared :). What has happened though is that my engine now runs like a bag of nuts. :(

I did the usual run through looking for water in the electrics etc., but cannot find anything.

I have a couple of ideas,

1. As temp sensors are now clear of scale and pick up quicker, have I confused the ECU? As the symptoms are like a misfire/timing problem I think this is unlikely.

2. Have I cracked the head or blown a gasket. :eek: NOooo

3. Any other ideas?

If I don't get it fixed soon i'll be limping around skeggy. :(
 
Am sorry to hear your troubles... I can't offer any help but will sympathise instead, I hope it's not the head!

It may be that the ECU needs to adjust itself. Have you checked for signes of the signes of a head gasget(sp?) failure.
 
I don't know what a flush kit is, I've only used a garden hose and disconnected the lowermost waterconnection, flushing radiator and block.

It might be the head gasket, but don't think so. Mine cracked between two cylinders, making an uncompressed mixture ignite throught the other cylinder, making it operate against the tree others. It sounded like a firework under the bonnet, and the engine didn't run at all.

You could try to run the engine without any water/coolant at all. If it's cold ofcourse. The thermostat isn't opening for coolant after several minutes anyway.

The coil pack on #1 cylinder has exploded and is intermittently arcing to earth. :(

I'll have to see if I can get one before Skeggy as my baby does not sound too well at the moment. :(
motor factors do punto ones so i reckon they do them for your car aswell, be loads cheeper than a fiat one. and proubaly better made aswell.

Yes, each cylinder has its own coil attached directly onto the spark plug so you do away with all the problems associated with HT leads and distributors, etc..
Only prob is there are 5 on a 20v and they cost about £80 each from Fiat.
