Recently i have a problem to combine the revers mode. When i push the clutch all the way and trying to combine the gear to revers, i can hear a strong noise from the gear. It sounds like the gear can't find its place and gear tooth are brushing. Some times its impossible to put in revers and some time its fine, hard but without a noise (especially when the engine is cold).
Can i do something by myself to fix it? whats wrong with my lovely car? :p
BTW, no problems with 1,2,3,4,5 gears. They are hard, but that is FIAT.

thanks for your help.

Sounds like the clutch needs to be replaced. If you select reverse BEFORE starting the engine, can you get it into gear OK? Also, if you try to then start the engine (in reverse gear, clutch pedal pushed fully down) does the starter motor struggle?

When my clutch had to be replaced, reverse gear was the first one to give selection problems: first and second gears suffered the same problem soon afterwards.

Hi
I did your procedure:
I selected reverse before starting the engine - its not smooth but it possible to get into gear with a little push.
After, i start the engine when the reverse is pre selected - no problem and no abnormal noise.
Some times its also hard to get into the first gear, but without noise.
Is it the clutch end of life, or its adjustment issue?
Many thanks

Eli

Try bleeding the clutch but check that there is not excessive freeplay at the pedal. Unusual now but 2001 year models had a batch of springs break in the master cylinder. It is feasible this could have happened to you?
