hey guys,
I have a noisy hand brake ie it squeaks A LOT when I get in the car or when it is parked on an incline! Do u know how I can remove this squeaking noise??

I know its the hand brake because when I go in the car and the hand brake is lowered there is no squeaking sound.

The rear suspension sqeaukes a little over large bumps...does anyone know how to remove those squeaks as well??

In case any of you are wondering...I JUST HATE SQUAEKS!!!!

thanks for ur help;)

maybe your handbrake isn't gripping tight enough. yesterday i parked on a near vertical road and the handbrake wouldn't hold and had a similar noise. Might be worth checking if the shoes need replacing.

I turned the car in to the kerb to stop it rolling away whilst I went inside btw. hehe

I reckon try and replace the replace Handbrake pullers (at drum end) and prob. shoes before the handbrake cable

I had totally new suspension (see https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=24793)

This sorted one squeak – but has caused others – Maybe go for new Upper shock Mounts as the temp one I fitted squeaked before it ripped.

Kind Regards,

Worn rear brake shoes can also cause squealing. They might be glazed or worn down to the rivets which could cause squeaking noises.

As for the rear suspension squeaking, it could be the rubber bushes in the trailing arms, shock absorbers or shock absorber top mounts. Sometimes squirting WD40 onto the bushes can help, but also check the rubber top mounts for the rear shocks. These mount onto the inner wheel arch and can be seen when you remove the plastic covers from within the boot. These mounts have a habit of breaking up!

Uno handbrakes are CRAP. It is the same patent as on the Ritmo (Strada). Never park an Uno downhill on the handbrake itself without engaging 1st gear as well. And turn the steering wheel towards the "street edge" and not outwards onto the road. Never walk in front (or rear if parked uphill) of a parked Uno.

:D

Hey Mort,

At my last MOT when my Uno was on the brake rollers, the MOT man said 'F**k me, an old Fiat with a working handbrake!'

Mine works fine, and I guess I'm lucky because in nearly two years I haven't done anything to it. No problems on hills or anything. Maybe the last owner did some work on it before I got it. Looks like it's coming up for the time when my Fiat does the dodgy handbrake trick!

Hi All,

This is my inspiration for the handbrake pullers Cinq/Sei Handbrakes (er - little linkages) .

Thanks Pete!!! Absolute GEM – Uno having similar design

...Firstly, the little linkages are made from mild steel, and rust quite quickly. There is a pivot on them, held with a big rivet, which seizes solid when it gets rusty...
It’s not just how far you’ve driven also the age of car and road surfaces and speed you’ve been driving on lol.

My second Uno (88 – 903cc wi over 100K [miles]) failed MOT 3 times on handbrake – I could have saved loads of cash on new shoes Etc? OK Higher millage don't help either lol.

I'm yet to get them fitted on my Mk2. – near top of my long to do list lol.

Regards All,
Edit; is the quote lol.

WD-40 on all linkage parts helps a lot, especially the 'reaction force' side (usually NS). Also check that the pulley wheel can move round there is a little tab on the holder for the wheel which can get bent around so that it stops it moving and thus working properly.
