Hey Fiat Forum.

I just recently got my Fiat 500 Pop 1.2L in right hand drive.

The last day I've noticed that when braking there is quite a loud and clunky kind of sound coming from the passengers side. I found a few threads that have said its when the conversion is done from left to right hand drive.

Is there anything to be concerned about? Is there anyway of stopping the noise?

Thanks
Loungey

from the brakes them selves..??

or the pedal mechanism..? - as the actual servo is on the LHS of engine bay..and uses a rod mechanism to go from RHS pedal to LHS servo.

MY UK car is now clunky when releasing the handbrake.. as we've got VERY wet weather and the rust/corrosion of the braking surfaces are binding pads + shoes..,

I can feel a warranty claim coming on, as the brakes feel "eliptical" in use..!!

Its to do with the main brake on the car not the handbrake.

The noise is really only apparent when taking your foot clean off from the brake pedal (like doing a hill start switching from brake to accelerator quickly)

I just wanted to make sure it was normal here are some quote of what I have found. I can't link yet sorry due to being a newbie here

"Hello there is a cross shaft under the dash, when you press the brake pedal the master cylinder is actually on the passenger side, this shaft & its links pins & bushes sometimes makes a noise. It is sometimes annoying but is just a noise.I would check it anyway, get down under the dash near the pedal with a torch ,press the pedal lightly & try to find exactly which part is noisy it could be n/side or o/side.You may be able to lube or tension something to stop it.Hope this helps."

Or

"They've all done this from day one. As maxi says it's noise caused by the mechanical linkage that is used to convert the brakes from left to right hand drive. It's just a feature of the design. After a while you don't hear it anymore."

hi again,
o.k.,
sounds like it's time to follow those instructions,
IF you can see / feel / hear where the noise is from..then you may be able to deal with it,

maybe use the SEARCH on top Banner to search the 500 forum for this issue, and relpy to one of the relevant threads,
in the 5'ish years we've had the RHD 500's somebody may well have posted decent images.. or even a guide,
good luck,
Charlie

Thanks for replying again :)

Its not a super loud if you have the radio/cd playing at about volume 10 its very hard to hear.

From what I can find this seems like a just a design quirk from these cars. Its definitely liveable but just not something I have had in any other car I've owned before.

TBH , I've never noticed in 9 years of Panda ownership..

Ill get the dealer to have a look and check one of the demo cars and see what it does as well.
