Noise when changing gear

Hi everyone

I'm getting a sort of electronic cat's meow noise when I change gear - honestly! The sound is heard when the clutch is used. Once the gear is engaged it's fine, there is no sound. Without stating the obvious ie.there is a cat under the bonnet, I would appreciate it if someone could please tell me what they think it could be. (the car has been standing for a little while).

Thanks

Chris

you've spoilt it now, i bet most ppl huffed when they saw ' without making the obvious cat under the bonnet comment' and clicked back to read the next post lol

Do you hear the sound as you press the clutch or as you release the clutch or the entire time you are pressing the clutch down including holding your foot on it?

Thanks Tom

The noise is there when pressed down and on release, it not there when held down.

It doesn't make the noise when the car is stationary and the clutch is pressed without using the throttle.

I have a similar problem and have been told it's the Clutch release bearing. Don't quite know what that is but it sounds serious. Can anyone shed some light on costs to replace or doing it myself?

could be the clutch housing itslef. it happened to mine about 6 months ago. does it sound like its spinning as well sometimes? try pressing the clutch fully down on the stops, if it does it then and only then its the housing, if it does it all the way thru pressing the clutch down, its the release bearing. I got this from a good mate who works for fiat, its a common problem apparently. either way mate, it could mean a new clutch im afraid.
