General noise from passenger side

General noise from passenger side

Has anyone else been in the car with you and heard it? was just wondering as having someone else in there they can maybe pinpoint it while you're driving! good luck if you take it to the dealer, hope it doesnt miraculously disappear as soon as a tech gets in the car (as these things seem to do!)

Ok, I drove down a nice rough, ripply bumpy road with battered Tarmac and the noise was really bad,a proper rattle this time and it's definitley coming from the rear left hand side and not the front seat, the back seats are secure so I thought it could be the parcel shelf but when I shook it with the boot shut it didn't move much or make a noise so doubt it's that. Could it be the suspension or something mechanical? I'm gonna drive home with the shelf taken out then put the seats down and see what happens. This is stressing me out already and only had the car 2 weeks and can't enjoy it at the minute!(n)

exhaust pipe? Don't think it's that as I wobbled it the other day and it felt secure.could it be coming from further back along the exhaust itself? How can I check?

my worry with the dealer is that they say they can't hear it or can't locate it! Previous experiences with Renault and Vauxhall where they can't locate the noise make me think fiat will say the same! I do love the car but no way can I live with that noise, especially as it's only 2 weeks old!

Lloyd, I've got the chirpy heater fan too - I've been informed on here it can be fixed under warranty fairly easily ... I'm waiting until I'm about to sledgehammer the fan before I take it in, which is actually not that far off at the moment because I keep having to turn fan to 0 or 2 to eliminate the noise. I have found however that the chirping stops when you go round a corner :ROFLMAO: try it!

yeah I've checked the spare wheel area and all is secure,it def sounds like it's coming from the rear seats or the rear left pillar/panel. I don't think it's as far back as the boot lock, tho I could be wrong, the boot sounds a bit tinny when I shut it compared to the doors and I always think it's not shut properly!
I'm gonna get someone to travel with me and sit in the back and see how I get on.

Thats when the budgie falls off its perch :D

Re: noise from passenger side *update*

Ok so today I drove with the parcel shelf out and seats down and the noise wasn't there. There was a clunking noise coming from the hinges when i went over bumps or ripples which disappeared if I held the seats down. There was still a rattle that I think is from the boot lid, maybe the lock area.
Any ideas why this noise is happening with the seats up and not when they are down? Also is there a known rattle from the boot lid that anyone else has?

Mine has stopped now, it was only doing it for one day. (y)

only time BJ did it i managed to track it down to the rear seat latches.

Has yours got headrests in the rear?

Boot lid rattle - the rubber gromits on the boot lid itself screw in and out to suit. Give then a quarter or a turn, or a half if you like, to make them longer so that the boot needs a good "thump" to shut. If that solves that noise, wind them back in until it's just not rattling but easier to shut.

Main noise - sounds to me like the rear seats is rattling in it's top side mounting (or, but unlikely, on the bottom hinge or the centre mounting if it's a split seat). All are easy to fix by the dealer if you can isolate. If it's a split seat, try and work out which side.

HTH

Yeah I have the split rear seats with headrests. I'm not sure what those rubber gromits are,are they easy to see and get to? The noise is coming from the left side with the seats up.

Pic of grommit on hatch... this is with the boot open and upside down obviously!

Although there are drainage holes to let any water in the tailgate run out I always find that after washing the car, when I lift the tailgate there is nothing coming out of them but instead it runs out from the holes the bump stops are screwed into.

tilt the rear seat's forward and then realy slam them back into position i got a rattle from the back seat and although the seat was solid and looked to be in place properly a good hard slam stopped it rattling and proved the latch's wern't actually engaged on 1 side, if it's not that is you'r locking wheel nut rolling around in the spare wheel well ?? there is a slot for it but mine was just thrown in when i picked up the car it could be that
