Just had a new turbo fitted 3 days ago. Today while driving at low speed just pulling out a junction and heard like a pop and hiss. Totally lost turbo and lots of smoke from exhaust. Is this just a boost pipe come off? I've been told yes and no.

Hi Dave,

petrol or diesel, what BHP, car still running, no other noise ?????

Regards, Bernie

1.9tdi. 130 out the box but has been mapped to 160. Moves but no power at all. Smoke is just constant out the exhaust. After some research and advice, it appears it's possibly burst oil seals on turbo. Which was fitted 3 days ago.

Black smoke is caused by overfuelling.
Check the intake from the turbo all the way through to the intake. You are looking for loose hoses, splits, or holes in the pipework. Should be easily identified if you get someone to hold the revs at 2000 while you listen for a hissing noise coming from the pipework. Once you've found it, repair/replace as necessary.

White Smoke is caused by one of two things:
Coolant burning under the combustion process, or Turbo oil seal failed on the exhaust side. Only way to tell if it's turbo is to remove it from the car and inspect.

Blue Smoke is caused by oil burning DURING the combustion process, however, this can also be unburnt diesel (usually at cold startup).

Thanks mate. Cars back in at the garage to see what's up. Aa guy reckoned burst oil seals in turbo. Just a waiting game now. Cars not worth putting more money into it tho.
